I'm curious if they keep them to street sales, or sell over the internet. I would think you'd want to sell every last one to someone you don't know that's very far away. But then again, isn't it often the little things that get a crook nailed. The other night I watched a tv show where a millionaire's son was kidnapped and the big break came when one of the culprits left a simple nothing item in the car rental they had ditched, and went to the rental place to pick it up! The cops tracked him, monitored all his (and his friends) calls, and did a huge operation a few days later and rescued the kid. All because he went back for a stupid cell phone case I think it was.

They have some leads, if anyone shows up on the boards with a new TT Rolex DJII with Ivory dial he could be the perp. :poke:

I would never wish this upon anyone, but you are right, the people at Tourneau are so rude and uptight.

Greetings!
Went to a jewelry shop in Las Vegas (off the strip) today to pick up a watch that was in for repair. 3 large glass cases were covered over and empty (one had held Rolexes, one was for their Breitlings, and one was for Micheles (inexpensive designer watches). Last weekend, several masked and gloved men carrying a pistol and a sledge hammer entered the store near closing. In about 1 minute, they had smashed the above cases and made off with thousands of dollars worth of watches. Didn't touch any other cases with jewelry. Fortunately, no one was hurt. This seems to be becoming a common type of robbery.

Any number of people who want a $10,000 watch for $1,000.

They will then sell it on and a perfectly innocent buyer on eBay will only find out that there is a problem when they try and get the watch serviced in 5 years time.

What exactly is the problem? I've been discussing this with a lawyer and my cousin who is in law school, can Rolex (or any manufacturer) confiscate your stolen watch if you didn't knowingly purchase a stolen watch? If you purchase a $10k watch for $1k then it can be proven that you should have known, but what if you paid $7k for it and had no clue that it was stolen?

Tom?

Different states have different laws regarding whether bona fide purchaser wins out over the true owner. You are mainly right - hard to be a bona fide purchaser if you get a brand knew watch for 10% of cost. It isn't just actual knowledge - you knew, but also imputed knowledge - should have know. No more legal stuff today. I just finished a 20 page brief on some pretty esoteric contract shit. I am surrounded by reams of paper and pre-loved tissues. I don't do sick well!
