I like it, not crazy about the movement, did some research on it seems okay. Just wondering what everyones thoughts on it were.

Preferred the bronze one that you were looking at before, especially now that the bronze issues have been resolved. PVD (as opposed to DLC) has a tendency to flake and peel.

I know the watch is a New Zealand design...M y statement was "HATE CHINESE MADE"...

It looks a bit like a homage to too many watches at the same time. I see a bit of ceramic Sub trying to play with a Radiomir that wants to be a Submersible.

I looked at that model a little when it came up on Ablogtoread this past week. It does take some styling cues from other brands, but at least its trying to look unique in the sum of its parts. It think it's attractive, though maybe the brushed case might be a better move.

Since you already have the bronze Magrette, which I also studied on the site, you are in more of a position to judge quality than anybody else here. If you are happy with that piece, I would trust that the company would be trying to adhere to a similar quality standard in all their pieces. "Made in China" has earned just about all the criticism tossed its way, but I don't think that means that an indie company looking for quality but economical outsourcing can't find someone there to make a sound movement for them. Their existence is on the line and they have already bitten the bullet on the bronze issue, so I would think they'll be cautious with the selection and creation of the movement.

OK, I'm a bit confused. I thought PVD (physical vapor deposition) was the process by which a substance like DLC (diamond like carbon) is applied.

Assuming that is correct, here's my somewhat off-topic question then - when they aren't using a hard substance like DLC, what is the cheaper substance used. I know there are grades of coating and some are more apt to scratch, flake, or simply wear through.

And on topic, I've looked at Magrette several times. Been interested, but never pulled the trigger. If I am paying $600 for a watch, it wouldn't matter much to me if the movement was ETA, Soprod, Seagull, or Miyota.

As for stuff made in China, well I'm using a Dell laptop which was made in China and just finished up a conference call on my iPhone made in China. Dell and Apple are US companies. Would I prefer to see them made in the US? Yessir. Would I pay extra for it? Yessir. But now we get into economic/political issues I will not address here, because I need to grab the TV remote, coincidentally made in....China (weird - it's a Samsung!)

Most things made in China are made there because we (the western consumer) do not want to pay prices that are attached to USA/Europe made goods.

The other reason for USA/Europe companies to have goods made in China is because we (the western investor) insist on maximizing profits and shareholder value and forcing companies to produce in low cost countries

I once had dinner with a Chinese factory owner , 100000+ people in a single location only ever leaving the factory during chinese new year, that was unhappy with the raise he had just given his workers and he said "If there's another round of pay increase and I have to again give a pay increase of USD $0.25 an hour to all workers I am packing up and moving this factory to a low cost country (!!!!!) as the prices you are prepared to pay dont leave much more room

Back on topic, quite like the design, don't like PVD and really like the movement.

The ST-19 is a rock solid chrono and mine has been faultless.

I really liked the bronze but this one leaves me with no real reaction at all; not really a good sign, i guess.

Personally I don't like it. Has a somewhat cheap look to it.

Regarding the Chinese comment, very ignorant, low class thing to say.
