Some of you may be familiar with the Audemars Piguet watch I listed on ebay. Long story short, I've got someone emailing me saying they are interested in the watch. His location is Cibinong Indonesia and has made an offer to pay through a wire transfer through an escrow company. He's even offered to pay for fedex international priority service. He sent me an email with the specifics to the deal as well as a link to register with the escrow company. Anyone know of any scams like this? Is it legit? ------------ OK so I asked about the escrow company on ebay's forums and found out that it is probably a scam. They said to use escrow.com only, so I sent the guy a message saying escrow.com, paypal or nothing. Any more advice? |

as a general rule, absolutely do not do business with ANYONE from indonesia on ebay. no matter what the method of proposed payment is. any bidder from indonesia is an automatic red flag and i wish that didnt make me sound like a racist jerk, but the amount of fraud coming out of that country is flat out ridiculous. as your watch is worth so much, i would not take the risk. you need to keep the transaction within ebay so you have seller protection. just run a google search for indonesia fraud if youre having second thoughts. |

Oh no, don't use escrow! There are so many scams reported that I would never ever use this kind of companies. Even "trusted" escrow sites have scams reported. I would also have problems with someone far away paying through paypal. There have been several reports with deals paid by stolen credit cards. Then, when you have shipped your item to "country-far-far-away-mostly-in-africa-or-asia" and the credit card theft is recognized, the credit card company will get their money back. Either from your paypal account or from you directly. |

100% scam scenario. The fact that Escrow.com will not accept customers from Indonesia should be a warning to you. I would not deal with them irrespective of the proposed payment system. Whilst you may be dealing with an honest guy, his fellow countrymen have given the country a terrible name for being fraudsters. Take care. |

I have to agree. As the potential buyer suggested a deal involving an escrow site which is thought to be involved with scams it doesn't sound good at all. You could suggest Western Union - that way you have the cash in your hand before sending the watch. If it's a scam that will scare him off for sure - the buyer has no comeback that way. It's getting harder all the time to do anything like this in a risk free way. |

It all makes sense guys thanks for the help. This guys hasn't responded to my "oh hell no" email anyway so I guess I'll move along with the auction. With a week left there's 5 other people watching it right now anyway so I don't think it'll be a problem to sell it. |
