Did any catch the XO or OX DNA watches on SHOP NBC last night?
Never heard of them...The watches have actual metal from famous aircraft and cars.
Like a F-14; Spitfire;P-51;Rolls Royce; Porche Spyder.
They mix parts in with the S.S. to make the cases

Interesting concept, but I can't say I'm any more interested in the watches because of it. Now, if they made a watch case solely out of the metal of one specific vehicle, without blending it with other sources, that would be more compelling. Imagine a watch made exclusively out of the steel of one of Patton's tanks.

It is ...The P-51 Mustang is A WWII with engraved caseback and a laser etched certificate with the story.
Each one has it's on history.
F-14 year of plane....Engraved picture on caseback.....And so on.
Spitfire served in Battle of Britain....They were a few under $100.00USD
They never mentioned movt. I think they are Chinese :(
Or did you mean 100% steel from the tank? That would rust :|

I was talking about making a watch case entirely out of the metal of one vehicle, not incorporating pieces of a vehicle into the composition with other stainless steel. The XO watches may take the metal pieces from a single vehicle, but those pieces are still incorporated into the composition with other steel. The watches are not made entirely out of the metal from that vehicle. And how much is actually incorporated? What constitutes "pieces"? For all we know, it could just be a few metal filings.

The movements are Japanese, according to the Shop NBC website.

Looks like you added this while I was typing. Yeah, that's what I meant. If it would rust, then I guess it would be impractical to make it entirely out of one vehicle's metal. The website says nothing about the percentage of the vehicle in the composition, though; it could still be nothing more that a few shavings. It's academic anyway, since these watches really don't do anything for me. In the end, they appear to be fairly low-end quartz watches with a fairly generic pilot's watch design. The best thing I can say about them is their movements are Japanese. I have yet to see any watch on Shop NBC that is one I would actually go for.

I recall Roffensian saying that he was looking at a particular brand of watch, I forget the brand, but I went to their website and parts of it are made from dinosaur dung....so I guess anythings possible.

That would be the Jurassic Tourbillon by Louis Moinet.

According to the literature on that, it's made with dinosaur bone, not dung. I'm not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed.

Either way, it must be fossilized.

It is. And my correction was not so much to you as to nr123, in a good-natured, elbow-in-the-ribs kind of way. I mean, I went to the trouble of thinking up that "shitty watch" joke for nothing.

It's not a Louis Moinet at all and as JacksonStone says that's made of fossilized dinosaur bone.

What I actually said in another thread was that I was considering an Artya watch - that's the company that was formed by Yvan Arpa, formerly of Romain Jerome. They make a number of pieces including one made of fossilized dinosaur dung. I never expressed an interest in that piece, and in fact have no interest in it at all, but it was the one that nr123 gravitated towards from the link that I posted to Artya watches - http://artya.luxuryartpieces.com/

Holy confusion, Batman. Glad we got that straightened out. I couldn't find the dung watch on Artya's website, but a quick Google search brought it up. Meh...even if it weren't priced at over $11,000, I still wouldn't want it, and not because it's made out of coprolite. (Actually, that part makes it interesting.)

http://www.luxury-insider.com/luxury-news/2010/03/artya-creates-dinosaur-dung-timepiece

Edit: Now that I think about it, the coprolite watch illustrates why I didn't think the XO watches were anything special. Irrespective of my opinion of the Artya watch's design, the coprolite material at least presents its intrinsic properties; you can actually see the fossilized material and get a sense of the uniqueness of it. With the XO watches, the vintage parts have been melted down into the steel, so they've lost their uniqueness. In your mind, you know they're in there, but you can't see them, feel them, or get any sense of time or place from them. That was pretty much my point from the get-go.
