Any thoughts on a Cartier Roadster? My wife was taking her diamond studs in for some work and we started looking at watches. She was not at all warm to any of the Michelle watches. All the small watches with diamonds and the like did not grab her. She did like the Breitling Galactic 41 in both silver face and MoP face. She did not like the pilot bracelet. Says shes like the bracelet on my steel fish more.

She did however, keep coming back to a Cartier Roadster. The "mid" size or mens large, not the extra large or womans (small). There is a pretty cool looking Roadster S with black rubber bracelet and black ring around the bezel, but she really wants a steel bracelet. The "S" has a black date and no magnifier. On the non-S Roadster she did not like the white date and magnifier so much. So I looked on line and there is a "S" with steel bracelet. Cartier was just not on my radar for her. I was hoping she would dig a Colt or the like. The Galactic 41 actually looks way better in person than on the web site. Still I think the Roadster is what she really liked. Since I would be buying at the AD I am sure I could exchange it after christmas if she did not like it 100%.

My wife has very small hands, wrists and arms, but kept going back to bigger and bigger watches. No interest in the typical ladies watch that is small and look more like jewerly.

Any info good or bad on the watch, movement, value, etc? Pix of various ones below.

Roadster she tried on and really liked, not thrilled about date:

Roadster S with rubber band that is very comfortable...I was thinking I could wear it

Roadster S steel band, no black ring around the face. This one seems to be the combination of the two above with the look/features she liked from both.

My dad had a roadster a few years ago, really nice looking watch. He wound up trading it in for a Panerai. I know the timekeeping was his main problem. I'm not sure if this is a serious issue with the model, but that was his experience.

I came very close to getting the last one pictured but decided to get the Calibre instead. I liked the all brushed look of the last one and the fact it didn't have the date magnifier. The one downside to buying that one is that it doesn't come with any of the extra straps when I believe the model with the date magnifier comes with an extra strap. Strap changes are easy since they have the quick change system as well.

I tried to get my wife's opinion on a watch she would want and she's decided it'll be a Cartier. She prefers either the Tank Francaise or Tank Solo models and I think she'll end up getting the Solo. She did try on the Galactic 32 with the diamond bezel and hour markers and really liked that and I'll agree, some of the Galactic models do look a lot better in person.

I like the look of the watch itself, but I can't get past the crown - with the way the case is shaped and the shape of the crown itself it just seems to stick way too far out for my liking.

That was the very first thing I noticed when I saw the watch. I asked my wife it he hit her hand when she moved her hand up. She has no issues with it. It does sort of look bolted on from a spare parts bin. I actually tried it on and it has a great feel on your arm and really centers itself nicely. I like it more once I wore it over just looking at it. Impressive weight, but not too heavy, really a nice overall feel. Seems like a great all around watch. Not too sporty and not too dressy.

Do you guys think this is not all that femine? Guess it is the same watch as the ladies just bigger and with an automatic movement. I really like the auto over the quartz that the chick-watch has.

Justin, you are right about the multiple bands with the Roadster, but not the "S". I'd like her to get that black rubber strap as well. It has a a really cool clasp. I did not price that black band. Her birthday is in January, so that would make things simple.

I just got back from the AD both the Roadster and Roadster S with black that she had looked at two weeks back were gone. He is checking other stores and with Cartier for the S with steel band.

On a more interesting not (for me) I got to see several new Breitling models. The new bazel styles are growing on me to the point I am starting to think my Steelfish looks a bit dated. I really liked the SO Chrono II. They had it in all colors except blue. There was a LE Blacksteel Avenger SW Chrono...loved the red not sure about the blacksteel part, buckel all dark was cool. Tried on the Sea Wolf with Yellow face and really liked the way it looked, but a lot like my Steelfish. Was sort of bummed they did not have a single new Colt. I was curious to see one in person.

Oh, almost forgot to mention I tried on a few Bell & Ross too. Not all that up on the models. 01 is bigger, right? Tried on a 01 GMT with black face and body, 01 with steel body, black face and I really liked the slightly smaller 03. I might have to add that to the short list with an Omega PO, Breitling SO Chrono II and the new style Rolex Explorer II.

So I got the Roadster S for my wife. 3rd picture above, all stainless black date. She loves it. I really dig it. Kind of hope she tires of it so I can claim it as mine. She was a bit shocked when I told her it was a man's model, for a bit thinking it was too big. She quickly got over that. It really is a nice feeling watch and sits perfectly on her wrist. Best part is that I can now tease her that her watch cost more than my Steelfish so I am in "need" of a new watch.

Congrats on the pick up.

I always thought the Roadster looked a little feminine. The model you got for your wife looks very feminine, IMO. The lack of date magnifier and white dial with the romans really screams "jewelry" to me.
