Post subject:  Inherited Rolex questions

So my parents came across a Rolex that belonged to my Granddad. My dad's content with his Seiko, so I get it :D However, I know next to nothing about this watch, so I hoped y'all could help me out.

Apologies for the quality:

It's gold plated, with a lot of the SS showing. Also, I think Granddad got it in the 50's, although it could have been earlier, I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nice! If the band is original it should say the month and year as eg. " 4 60" in the clasp. You might have to look with a magnifying glass.

Bests

Thanks A4B7,

The band says 585, but it might not be original. Today I talked to my dad about it again, and he said he thinks it was bought in 61. :? Makes me wonder if Granddad bought a watch in 61, lost it, and then replaced it in 85 without telling anyone. This wouldn't be the first time my family's lost a Rolex; Granddad gave Dad a SS version in the same year, but he lost it when he accidentally left it in a gym locker a few years later  Is there any way to tell the year on the watch itself?

I recognize this is a silly question, but what's the name for this model, just oyster perpetual?
