Looking to pick up a bronze watch, trying to spend under a grand. I was wondering what you all thought of this watch. http://www.magrette.com/the-timepieces- ... bronze.php

Thanks for looking :)

Magrette has a good reputation at the price point, they've been around for a while but fly under the radar because they aren't based in a big market.

Movement is Japanese (Miyota) so solid enough. The thing that bothers me about this one are he non bronze bits - caseback in steel is fair enough, but there are steel screws through the lugs that are visible to old the strap and hte crown is steel.

That did bother me as well the none bronze parts however the only real issue I had was the movement, being I have never owned a Japanese auto, but if you say the Miyota is solid I think I might pick it up. BTW thanks for the quick reply.

I see a bit more Anonimo personally.

They make a good, reasonably priced everyday watch. I have one of the original Moana Pacific Regattare watches (Limited to 500 and sold out, pics and review here: http://rolexblog.blogspot.com/2009/09/m ... story.html). For what its worth, the owner Dion is a really nice guy and a pleasure to deal with. I would highly recommend and please follow up with some photos if you make the purchase!

100% Agree - First thing I thought of when I saw the picture was that other thread on homage watches.

Helson Sharkdiver. Might be sold out, but seemed to go quick so could be another run in the works. I have a Titanium one, ETA... had a choice. For under a grand I like them.

Plenty of English posts out there, this was just the first I found with good pictures.

+1 for that. It's actually why I don't like it, although I do like Anonimo. It's what Marina Militare is to Panerai.

Yeah the Helson's nice, but as you say it's sold out now. I think that the bronze case was just over $1,000 but still not bad.

Quite possibly because my Titanium one was $899 if I recall correctly.

Peter Helson answers the emails sent to the Helson site, at least mine he did, so would be fairly easy to check in and see what the future holds.

They told me the shark diver is 1295 and the next set will be out soon.

Slightly aside from the main part of the thread, but I bet there are going to be whole load of bronze models appearing on the used market in a year or so as the patina bronze develops starts to p*ss people off. For people who get OCD over scratches, bronze is going to send them into a flat spin!
