I have a chance to trade for one of these. What are your thoughts? I have kind of felt they were like a SA a little much for an older guy....... |

Base luminors do not wear as large as SA's. The base models wear much smaller than the Panerai 1950 case (ie 312, 320 etc) I think it's a good move. I am in the market for a Panerai base as well after two unsuccessful attempts with the 1950 cases; I tried on a base recently and they wear terrific on smaller wrists. Good luck. |

The 111 is great, I just got tired of winding it after a while. It was quite awkward to wind because of the crown protector, so I never looked forward to winding it like I did with some other watches. EDIT- maybe this says more about my clumsy paws than about the watch. ![]() |

111 wears way smaller than the SA. Not even close. And these guys are right: the base models wear smaller than the 1950 case. My cousin has been wearing a Rolex GMT for years, and even he thought the base pam wore just fine. |

I have a base Pam and I love it...to me the simple design is unique and goes well in any situation. The other really cool aspect of owning a Pam is obviously the unlimited strap options. I disagree with Otto about the manual winding aspect...I rather enjoy winding mine every couple of days. I also love that the crown does not have to be screwed in, and can't be cross-threaded. If you think about it Panerai is actually a better watch option the older you get because their dials are clean, simple, and easily readable for those not so young eyes. |

Thanks guys, I do believe I will give it a try. I do enjoy the interaction of winding a watch. Thanks for the insight I have very little knowledge of Paneri. It is odd but it is a brand I haven't spent much time looking at. I will let you all know what happens. |

Yep, I think you should give it a try. Just to be clear, I've got nothing against manual wind watches, I just found this particular one very awkward to wind. You can't get much purchase on the crown, so you can only turn it part of a turn each time, and over time I found my thumb lightly scuffed up the polished bezel. Still a good enough watch to make it worth checking out, though. |
