Always liked them as they are one of the few brands that make a countdown bezel which I prefer to the divers style normally used. Not sure of the current position but they used to use ETA movements. Very plain dials which translates to "easy to read" in marketing speak! My favourite is the titanium Airspeed Chronograph which uses a Lemania 5100 movement. Only 39mm but fine for my tiny wrist!

I certainly wouldn't call them junk : there's just not enough about them IMO to set them apart from a thousand other watch makers out there. The name at least has been going a long time (I say "the name" as I don't know enough about the company's history, other than they are now owned by Grovana), but they've never really hit the big time in terms of capturing the public's imagination despite having a few fairly interesting watches. Historically, as Sharkie says, they always used tons of bog standard ETA movements - and I'm guessing they probably still do, although they may now claim to "modify" them. A little while back I did come across a watch of theirs that claimed to have a "Revue Thommen exclusive movement" which piqued my interest a little, but I soon gave up as finding out what that really meant was like trying to nail a jelly to the wall. I'm guessing it was an ETA base (or similar) with a little more modification than just a rotor change. So in summary, I'd say they're certainly not junk - think Fortis kind of category, and you wouldn't be far off the mark. They are generally priced OK, so if you like them, go for it. You certainly won't see many on people's wrists. |

Not sure that they are going to be staying ETA, because I believe that the 'modification' was commissioned rather than done by them. Given that Swatch Group is getting out of that business RT may need to be looking at Sellita or similar - I don't think they can afford to have ETA made modifications at their price point. As said, nothing offensive about them, and definitely not junk, but nothing stand out for me. |

Revue Thommen has quite a long mechanical tradition. The most interesting watches, they prduced where the mechanical alarm watches with an AS movement (handwind) and the jumping digital Hour. There once was a watch, that an american president wore as a testimonial, I think, it was Rosevelt, but not sure. Todays collection is lacking somehow identity. They produce a lot of different pilots watches, where they match with Fortis and Sinn to sell watches to people, who cannot afford a Breitling. I am not really sure, if that is the right way, but they seem to be able to survive. BG Thomas |

BG Thomas as Thomas said, Revue Thommen took over Vulcain for some years and produced the famous Cricket alarm watch under their brand name. The Cricket has been billed "the watch of the presidents", since Eisenhower (and many pilots, interestingly) used to wear these, they have been presenting all presidents up to Obama since then with their own Vulcain Crickets. Vulcain was spun off some years ago and is independent again (and produces some nice watches), Revue Thommen is now just an Average Joe brand like many others, but far from junk. It might not surprise you that I happen to collect Vulcain Crickets too, and this is one branded Revue Thommen:

I bought a Revue Thommen Landmark (quartz) about 10 years ago, when I was 21, paid only about $150 for it so just was curious what people thought of the brand. Thanks for everyones input. |
