Hello! I am coming close to being in the market for a new piece. First off, I am going to buy my next piece pre-loved because I definitely cannot afford any of the ones that I am going to speak of brand new. Second, I am just a collector and an enthusiast and I do not have a lot of connections within the used watch arena (even though I would love to work part time in the watch business in some capacity just for the knowledge and experience). Here is what I am thinking..... I have wanted a solid gold watch for a while and have been considering a Day-Date (late 90's - early 2000's). I have tried the on and love the way they feel on my wrist and with the right dial/bezel combination, I think they are really great looking. Also, I only want one with the newer style and heavier bracelet. Recently though I have gotten something in my head that has me reconsidering even getting a gold watch. I have always heard the names Patek Phillipe, AP, and so on of what I thought were un-attainable watches when you aren't a very wealthy individual. It seems though that possibly with what I am thinking of spending that It may be in my reach to acquire a PP Aquanaut or maybe a Nautilus (if I find a great deal), or a AP Royal Oak. The thing is, I have never even tried on either of those and I am unsure about the re-sell and liquidity of a SS PP or AP versus a Gold Rolex. Any and all opinions are welcomed. I know that basically it comes down to getting what you really like the best, but I need to make sure I make a wise investment and I respect everyone's thoughts on this topic. Thanks and have a great day! |

There will be plenty of other people that can give you far better advice than me about re-sale values etc but here's my thoughts: I'm not really into gold watches at all. Not disrespecting them but there just not for me. Any Nautilis on the other hand ![]() |

i went from an anti gold guy to loving it, the right gold watch has such a nice warm feeling to it. its great. used is the way to go for sure. my 2 favorites are the day date with onyx dial and smooth bezel and oyster bracelet and the gold daytona. we just got on on a strap and its beautiful. |

![]() I think most people on here would agree that a wristwatch is not something to invest in if looking for a return on your money in the future. Probably the only sure fire investment is a limited edition Patek. So buy what you like the most. It may (or may not) lose money but you get the pleasure of wearing it for the time you own it. Buying a used Rolex/Patek/AP means the losses (if any) will be minimal. Gold is high at the moment which may affect market price. Personally, I would love to own a PP Calatrava. One day. Maybe! |

I have a TT sub and thought a full gold model would be too blingy. I was wrong. I saw a full gold submariner on the wrist of a pub landlord yesterday in heartford and It looked great. A bit gangster maybe with the England football top but didn't look ott IMHO. Maybe a gold Rolex sports model is worth considering. If you manage to get a GMT2 16718 I'm sure your not going to loose money. The second hand Market is not massive. |
