Post subject:  Your Age and Taste in Watches
Does age determine taste in watches? For example, I'm 29, and I recently purchased a SuperOcean 42 in Abyss Silver. I love it! Like many here, the bezal disappointed me a little. I worry about the durability of the rubber coating. If they were shooting for this particular look, there are other options. Just sayin. For me, that is the only con. To me, there are so many options from the inner ring, to the strap to really make it your own. As I read the thoughts on this piece, I see love or hate reviews. Not many folks are in the middle on this model. Just curious if a person's age has anything to do with it. On this watch, or any watch. I posted my watch below as an example.

Thoughts? What do you like, what do you not like? Honesty is appreciated, I won't be offended.

I'm 34 and have the SO44. Also an Omega SMP Chrono. But the SO is definitely geared for a younger demographic IMO.Image

My taste has definitely evolved as I've been collecting longer. When I was younger I wanted flashy (high polished lings, yachtmasters, etc). Now I lean toward the less showy and simpler pieces.

You have a great watch there and I'm on the 'love it' side of the SO's :lingsrock:

Only 2 great things about 1884 Breitling and Rotherham United Football Club(Soccer team for our friends over the pond).

Both formed in the same year and both my favourites.

B1 superquartz arrives in the morning and will accompany me to Rotherhams game tomorrow evening.

Sorry 46 year old watch and footie fanatic.

i think that age does effect what i pick. when i first started buying watches (3 years ago) i was attracted to B4B motors T, Super Avenger and basically anything that was over 44mm in size. my taste have since matured i guess you could say. now my largest watch is 44mm.

personally im looking for pieces that will stand the test of time (no put intended). i guess pieces that dont change drasitically and are not too large for my wrist size.

Not the case for me, because I didn't really buy in to the whole 'age appropriateness' of watches. As I have said before my taste is much more about adding something different to my collection - I don't sell pieces so I am looking for acquisitions that are dissimilar from what I already own. As the collection grows that tends to push me more towards niche pieces which is why some of the more polarising designs appeal to me now and why some of the more popular / mainstream designs are less me.

That said, I still don't like the idea of a 'fad' watch and I see a lot of the current Breitlings like that - red rubber bezels do not make for lasting appeal (to me).

I'm 40 all but a couple of weeks.

At 29 I was a Breitling nut ,and at 32 I am a Rolex nut. Breitling has lost me in the last 2 years because of there designs. I kind of have feeling you will be jumping ship from Breitling in the very near future.

Well I probably fit into the older crowd here on BreitlingSource, but I've always liked the more sporty designs. That is what attracted me to Breitling in the first place (not the big blingy polished pieces).

The new SO Abyss is a great looking sport watch IMO. The rubber bezel is not an issue on any of the new models for me. The size and fit/comfort are bigger concerns and rule out a large share of B's. So regardless of my age, I will always be attracted to aviation/sport designs.

31 I love the Breitling World, when I saw it I had to get one, so I did. I like the larger watches with a hint of bling attached.

I'm kind of in the same boat as MacApple. Been in love with Breitlings for the longest time but slowly my taste buds are leaning towards the Rolex brand. I'm 42 and now have an affiliation for Rolex especially with the SubC and the Exp II. But you know what, I'll always have room for my Breitlings no matter what age.

I am 23 and used to want a whole collection of breitlings. Now I can see myself with my steelfish and maybe adding a navi b01. Thats probably as far as I will take the breitlings.

I am leaning more towards Panerai and Jaeger LeCoultre lately. As far as rolex I have always wanted a Sub.

But for now (because it changes every week) the next watch I want is a Panerai 328. :drool:

You may be right. The only two Breitling models I'm willing to put money on I already own. I've been looking at the Milgauss, but I just can't justify $8k at the moment. If Breitling doesn't come out with something amazing to me in the next couple years, it may be time to move on.

Seriously, Mac has a good point... from a design perspective Breitling has fallen IMO... I prefer their old stuff within 5years or their shall I say "super old" vintage stuff, which is what I started off with anyways... from the current line I only fancy the Navi or SO series...

No need to drop 8k, Several trusted sellers on TRF (JUSTROLEXES) Tony Geha , that can hook you up, with a nice preowned Milgauss should be 5500 or so in excellent condition. I have the Gmt II c ,and I really do LOVE IT, not like it , LOVE IT. I still like Breitling but I like the older models, classic Navi, Soh46.

I am sure you will be jumping ship soon bud :nana: :nana: Breitling has seriously lost there mojo ,and is going after a younger crowd with there designs ,and I don't fancy any of them , Colored rubber bezels , color inserts, Is it too hard to make just a watch anymore without all the gimmicks?
