In stunning news, the BBC broke the story that scientists have discovered a planet identical to earth in size, atmosphere, gravity, magnetism, radiation, 12 hours light/darkness, weather patterns, 365 day orbit about the new galaxy's sun, etc. (Fox News and MSNBC have dismissed the story as a liberal or conservative hoax meant to turn attention from current compelling fiscal debate). Indications are “Planet X” may have a primitive indigenous population, generally friendly and fascinated by shiny things. When agitated, they are calmed by a rhythmic ticking sound. While confidence is high the above conclusions are accurate, no one can be certain. Your phone rings and it is NASA. They want you to join the team of “first colonizers.” There will be a several thousand of you, including women. Most countries will be represented. You will be living in modular, climate controlled buildings and limited land and air transport should be arriving contemporaneously with you. Sadly, you will not return. (it’s probably OK because by the time you could return our planet will be known simply as iEarth.) You suck it up, decide to go, and say your good-byes. Only one last matter to attend to – NASA has asked that you bring 3 watches with you. The only limits are one must be a watch you already own, one that you can afford to buy with the $10,00 tax free bonus NASA just gave you, and the other NASA will purchase for you up to $25,000. (The watch industry has recently suspended all discounts mindful of the coming onslaught of First Colonizer purchases. You are paying retail!) What are your choices to be? |

Now this is the kind of thing that a forum facilitator should be thinking about - great start Tom!!!! As always I reserve the right to change my mind, but.... Currently Own - Louis Moinet Twintech Under $10k - PAM 382 (there's a shocker) Under $25k - GO PanoMatic Reserve XL (that's the one that I am most likely to change every 2 minutes) |

I had to think about this. Neither Rolex made the cut. 1. I’ll keep the Navi 01 from my collection. The polished SS and audible ticking could save lives. Or get me in with the native Princess. Given some reported problems with the B01 movement, this is a high risk decision. But I am about to board a ship and go into suspended animation. Caution isn't the word of the day. 2. With the $15K bonus, as the excursion watch the Fifty Fathoms on strap for function and comfort. 3. For the NASA purchased piece, the Royal Oak Chrono on bracelet, just because. |

Ok change #2 to the green sub c since I can't get one I already have. That will be my excursion watch and will help me blend in with the native flora. |

1. My '67 Speedy Pro. If it was good enough for Nasa & the moon way back when, it's good enough for Nasa (really actually it's their contractor Space X since Nasa don't fly people to outerspace anymore) & Planet X today. 2. $10K limit would be the Rolex DSSD, since Planet X (being similar to iEarth) might have deep oceans to explore, which I'm thinkin might have good oil reserves, which I can stake my claim on, get some offshore drillin goin, get filthy rich, and eventually rule Planet X. 3. $25K limit would be the Pam 382 Bronzo because sadly I believe with the latest price increase, it's now over $10K, and in any case, I need the extra budget to custom make a matching solid bronze bracelet to fully fascinate the primitive indigenous population so they can elect me King. |

The one I own--The Navi--plenty of shine, and I might actually learn how to use the slide rule. The $10K--A skeleton watch might fascinate the natives. I'd like something larger, but off the top of my head maybe a Chronoswiss Opus. The $25K--Breguet Type XXII--Silicon technology, baby--it's gotta last. Plus I love the watch. With longevity in mind, I would also try to sneak in a Citizen eco or a Casio Tough Solar. |

1) My AP Panda 2) Not much under $10k I want that I don't already have. Maybe something for my wife? Is she coming too? 3) Panerai 339 Of course, this is silly. If I were really doing this, I'd want a g-shock. I could bring about 5 of the solar model and they would last a lifetime. Are watchmakers coming on this trip to fix the fancy mechanicals? |

The probability of natives who like ticking is extremely remove. Are you familiar with the Drake equation? |

I'd keep my Breitling, buy the Deepsea with the $10K and get a AP ROO black themes chrono with the $25K. |

I will keep the Aquatimer as I am sure the lume will look great in a space environment. I will add the Navi 01 and an AP ROO Safari with my NASA cash |

YES! i like this. kind of reminds me of "chose your own adventure" books i read as a kid. ok one i already own....would have to go with the subc my 10k bonus would be used to buy a new Explorer 2. i know i would have some dough left. but at least i could use this watch for what it was intended for...exploration and maybe looking in some caves. 25k spend is a tough one, would nasa allow me to spend this on 2 amazing hustler magazine models to come with me? |

On Second thought....no need for two space chrono's. Instead of the ROO I would get a proper moon phase to remind me of my old galaxy. The JLC Master Grande Ultra Thin Moon in rose gold should fit the bill. |
