Hey all,

Can any of our awesome resident ADs who also deal with Rolex help me date my late fathers vintage Datejust possibly using the serial number or model number? We couldnt find the original receipt as the watch was a gift from his wife for their 1st anniversary many years ago. I know its between 1983 - 1985 but would like to know exact year if possible. This watch is in awesome shape and im so very thankful to have such a amazing treasure to remember him by. Just wanna have all the verified info on the piece for my own safe keeping.

Thanks in advance!

You need to take off the bracelet for serial number identification... using that you can narrow it down to a specific year... Most likely your case will have holes on the lugs... use a toothpick or take it to a watch repair place/watchmaker and there will be two sets of numbers... one is the reference number or model number and look for something like "ORIG ROLEX DESIGN" and a set of numbers right below...

Thanks for that info but i actually already know the serial number and model number. The watch was at RUSA Dallas for service and all the numbers were all over their paperwork when i got it back. Unfortunatley it didnt give an exact production date so thats the reason for the post. Im just looking to PM the specific details to an AD on here who can help me figure out what model year i have. Thanks again though.

If you've got the serial number already then this should tell you what you need to know:
http://clockmaker.com.au/rolex_serial_numbers.html

As far as I'm aware, it's not possible to tell exact production dates. Serial numbers give a guide to the probable year, but even then it's only approximate and could be another year or so either way.

:yeahthat

All Rolex production years are approximate... there is no way to narrow it down specifically... the production list has been compiled by collectors and enthusiasts over the years...
