Post subject:  These 2 cool Rapport watch winders

Hello guys,

Anyone know anything about these 2 Rapport watch winders? Good bad indifferent? I looked up the specs and found the TPD day high but hopefully it doesn't really affect the watch in a negative way. I just really like the look of these and if anyone can give some functional input it would be most appreciated regarding brand, quality, service life, finish, motors, etc.

Constant Mode: 3960 TPD
Timed Mode: 1690 TPD (First Day)
1130 TPD (Second Day onwards)

I've not seen those two models before, but they look a little too cool for their own good (especially the second one)! Don't get me wrong, I think they look great, but I personally like my winders to be a little understated so they don't distract from the watch itself.

As I say, I don't know about thses specific models, but I have owned a more traditional twin Rapport winder in the past, and while it was nicely made (great fit and finish), the motors gave up the ghost in less than a year and had to be replaced (under warranty), and then within another year those replacements started to get very noisy as well. I sold it pretty soon after. Basically I think Rapport a lot of money for what you get........... but then that is so often the case with watch winders anyway. I'm guessing these funky new Rapport designs aren't on the cheap side.

I found Official Time to make winders that are perfectly comparable with Rapport for a considerably cheaper price, but now I use only Orbita Sparta winders as they work primarily by gravity, so the motor isn't constantly in use, which (hopefully) equals longer lifespan.

Thanks Driver8. I wish these two were Orbita or SwissKubik designs instead. I know Rapport weren't the best (no bad but not great). I guess it's more 'all show and no go'. Too bad as I think design wise they are right up there. Oh well:(

Thanks again for the info Driver-much appreciated. :D

I have had this for nearly two years now and is still as good as the day it was new . Sure it costs more but we are always reading about the winders that look good , are affordable , but don't last . More importantly they could be damaging your watch .

I can't brag enough about the Orbita Sparta winder. I have two of them. The one with the watch case / drawer underneath is a little on the (not very noisy) noisy side. The other without the drawer is on the extreme side of quiet.

Hi guys,

Yeah the Orbita models have a tremendous reputation. I just wish their designs were more to my taste-post modern, futuristic with a hint of the apocalypse.

Futura / tourbillon pieces are a little less traditional.

I'll only use quality winders now and Orbita are definitely up there. I got a Swiss Kubik with a watch earlier this year and have been impressed with that too.

Thanks Roff,

I do like the Orbia Tour just bothered with the lack of front and back glass as well as the lack of counter and clock combined rotation. You're right those Swiss Kubik's are nice!!
