I am watching a couple of Hercules on ebay and wondered if there are any countries I shoudl steer clear of? One is being listed by someone in Peru who has a feedback score of zero (so to be avoided anyway) - the other is in Israel but by a seller with a respectable level of feedback. I think I have read to avoid China and Argentina especially on the vintage lings. Any help much appreciated. Thanks |

I'm Canadian and stick to the US. You can usually find what you want for a good price from a secure seller. When I buy a watch I have to be VERY sure about the seller, or I walk away. |

As long as you are buying on a site that has Buyer Protection (ebay.com does), as a buyer, you are pretty safe and don't really have to worry about losing your money. However, if you are taking chances with sellers that have not sold regularly what you are looking for, or have suspect feedback, then you may have to deal with the time it takes to file and receive a response on the claim. I wouldn't worry about the country of origin so much as I would the established reputation the seller has on eBay. Buy the seller first. |

If I had a choice I'd ideally stick to Europe first and foremost (although I too have heard horror stories about the Italian postal service  ) for no other reason than it means no import duty for me, and if there's one thing I hate, it's giving the government additional money for no good reason whatsoever!  Other than Europe with the import duty/VAT benefits, I have absolutely no problem at all buying from, and selling to, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. I never really understand (although it has been discussed here a number of times) why people in Western/developed countries find it such a hassle to ship to other Western/developed countries. Never had a problem myself, so I never understand it. Each to their own though I guess....... |

I think it has become so easy to ship domestically here now, especially with all the prepaid postage you can purchase online through PayPal, etc., that taking the extra time to figure out how to ship something internationally, and understanding the difference in cost, is more of an inconvenience than anything else. I've shipped all over the world, and if it is domestic (here in the US), it is very fast and easy. If it's international, it just takes a few more steps, and many are just not willing to take them. Not a hard thing to do, just not familiar, more than anything else, I think. |

I've purchased from all over the world and never worried about it - buy the seller first. I have to accept import duties, but with the US exchange rates tht still makes US purchases attractive. I don't understand why US sellers will refuse my money because I am in Canada, it's about 30 seconds more work to fil out the declaration, but that's their right. I do object to the US sellers on eBay who will charge $20 domestic shipping and $95 to Canada - that's just a rip off. |

Reason is simple. International transactions are more of a pain in the @#$ Trackable shipping via UPS or FED EX is very expensive internationally. It cost me over $100 to UPS my Sinn to Germany. If you mail by USPS, the tracking is lost once it goes under the foreign lands postal service..so you have no idea where it is... Customs sucks. I, quite frankly, don't want to deal with it. I sold a rare G Shock to guy in Canada awhile back. It took three weeks for it to get to him from Florida. I guess it sat in customs for along time. He's emailling me after a week and half in a panic about where his watch is. Since I mailed it USPS, I have no clue once it hit Canada. I asked him to wait another week and a half and it showed up. I was about to give him a refund too...That's trouble and hassle I don't need, so If I can't sell it within the US, so be it.. To answer the original posters question....If I can't get it from an US seller, I don't need it. No way I'm sending thousands of dollars to someone that is essentially out of reach for me legally...It just isn't worth it.. |
