Post subject:  Deep Sea experience?
Hi, everyone.

Lately I've been hearing whispers from the deep sea... The Rolex SDDS is a watch that I've been semi-attracted to for quite a while, but lately I find myself wondering if I should consider making it the next addition to my humble collection.

I suspect it would pair up nicely to my vintage sub 5513 (which is still going strong BTW)

Do any of you have some experiences or impressions about the SDDS you'd like to share?

I've had my sub for a long time and I've owned a couple of other rolexes so I know what they're about, but the SDDS seems to be a bit of a different monster.

I really enjoyed mine for the 7 month stint I had it, the bracelet is awesome with the glide lock system. I cant really say much about it other than it was a great piece to own. The Deepsea dwarfs the sub , once you wear the DSSD its hard to get used to wearing the 40mm Sub again.

love mine, the bracelet tapers too small, looks like a womans watch ,so i wear it on a breitling rubber strap

Agreed. The Sub just seems small after owning the DSSD.

As I've been in the market for a Rolex, the Deep Sea caught my eye and I went back and forth on this a lot.

If you are wearing the DeepSea as a dive watch - I think it's fantastic. But coming from a guy who has several 44mm watches, I personally thought the Deep Sea is too large to wear as an "everyday" watch. It's just too bulky and you wind up spending more time figuring out what cuffs you can wear with it.

I settled on an older model Sea Dweller - 40mm....I'm also 43 years old, 6 feet tall, and 180 pounds....I don't know how good these 44+ size watches will look on my wrist when I'm 50+ years old....but I will appreciate their lume and easy to read dials :)

FEAR i love the fact that you are a Rolex convert! i agree though the taper is a bit much on the bracelet other than that its a stunner.

I looked at the Deepsea many, many times. It's an extremely well-made watch but I never liked the proportions of the head nor the bracelet. At the start I also disliked the writing on the dial ring, but that bothered me much less when I saw it in person.

Anyhow, I ended up getting a 16600 Sea Dweller too. Loved it immediately.

I use it as a everyday watch, it is much more comfortable than my Breitlings.. I think the tapering of bracelet is what makes it nice and comfy to wear, since it is a little bit top-heavy :D
If you are looking for a Rolex with a wrist presence, look no further ! IMO this is the baddest Rolex out there !

I picked up mine today - and I am absolutely thrilled. The biggest hurdle for me was to get over this tiny 40mm watch on my wrist! However, it is so comfortable and light weight compared to my BlackBird, I found myself checking my wrist on occasion to make sure it was still there!

The Deep Sea or the Sea Dweller are both absolutely beautiful watches...and my AD made a great point today that as far as "collecting" goes - the earlier Deep Sea models are not only retailing for about 20% more than when they were introduced, but they'll more than likely continue to increase in value as well.

There's no bad choice :)
