Although I had initially dismissed this watch as too big and freaky, having seen and tried a friend's on I have to say it wears smaller than its 48MM diameter and is very, very elegant indeed.

textured dial, reserve de marche, pointer date, lovely Roman numerals and the legendary El Primero movement, exchibition back? how about an open dial? :D

Can be had for a fairly decent price considering the awesome time tested in house movement and that the watch is a unique icon between watches.

Pics and a little review:

I'm considering the exact same watch - toss up between this and a Defy Classic Open for my first Zenith. I would go for the lighter dial (not the silver, the 'other' one. I actually really like the Open Retrograde, but that's only available in Gold.

yeah I was thinking of the Defy Open too Roff, but I know it would not add any value to my collection as it would be competing with other steel behemoths. The XXT is an elegant and unique watch that would add some diversity to my frighteningly expanding collection. Hopefully curb my need for a dress watch, an el Primero, an exhibition back (haven't popped that cherrie yet) all in one.

The only problem is that my AD does not seem to have one right now, might get in Dubai next time I am there.

About the other dial, you mean that pinkish dial with a sliver sheen? saw it online but no "real" pics. Do you have any? :D

That's the one - though it doesn't sound quite so attractive to hear you describe it

I don't have pics - have seen it in person at the AD though - best way I can describe it is a lightly bronzed silver.

 Sorry I guess my dislike of that dial showed through. I might have to wait and try to see one in real life just to be sure, I do like bronze.

Speaking of which (I can't believe I am about to hi jack my own thread) did you get the TT bronze Legende yet? If I was ever going to get a navitimer again it would have to be that watch. Do post some watch porn when you get a chance.

Couple of things on the XXT first - it's 45mm, not 48mm (which may be why it wears smaller than 48!), and there is no date indicator on the Open.

As for the Legende - it's mine, but don't have it yet - put a deposit down to ensure that I got the price while assuaging my guilt for spending quite so much in one month. Mind you, the way I'm feeling now it will be with me soon.

Are you sure// Iw as led to believe it was 48 MM as you can see from this description:

Brand Name: Zenith
Model number: 03.1260.4021/22.C505
Part Number: 0312604021.22C
Dial window material type: mens
Case material: scratch-resistant-sapphire
Case diameter: 48 millimeters
Case Thickness: 15 millimeters
Band material: stainless-steel
Band length: deployment-clasp
Band width: 21.5 millimeters
Dial color: black
Bezel material: leather
Bezel Function: stationary
Calendar: automatic
Movement: amazon.com
Water resistant depth: 100 Feet

I suppose they ment including the crowns maybe? makes sense since it felt like a 45MM watch. i had my Rolex GMT Master on and it did not feel THAT much larger so your figure is more sensible.

As for guilt over spending too much, I hear ya bro. I cry myself to sleep every night, but it's worth that orgasmic feeling I get in the morning when I open my watch box

:D

I never really cared for Zenith watches until I saw this post. Now it's got me thinking...

Yeah I do like that, but only in gold. The steel doesn't look so good imho.

I am leaning towards waiting until the end of the year when I have to balance company and personal money. I'll likely add a Zenith (among others) at that point and depending on how good a year it's been it will be (in descending order):

1) Chronomaster XXT Open Retrograde
2) Defy Classic Open in Steel and Gold
3) Chronomaster XXT Open in Steel

The multicity doesn't factor because I'd rather have the Retrograde, and if the budget doesn't stretch to that then it won't stretch to the gold multicity.
