Sorry about the quick review guys, and the background noise in the video, still down with the flue

That said, the arrival of this excellent watch has done an excellent job of cheering me up :D Here is a video unboxing of this watch and a comparision again an AP ROO Safari

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnEQx4EFEyY

As you can see the watch is 45MM but due to the extended case and lug design wear much bigger, bigger than even my 46MM JLC W-Alarm or IWC Big Inge/ Big Pilot

I was originally dismissive of Hublot, they had one design and milked it to no end with an outsourced movement, not unlike the Royal Oak Offshore line. Hoever, since AP decided to stick an in house movement in their excellent ROO line, I had changed my take, and similarly, when Hublot not only came out with their own in house movements, but also upgraded their case design and starting taking their fusion concept to a new level by using Tungsten, well I had no choice but to take notice!

Now this particular model really hit the nail on the head for me, as it scratched my skeleton itch while being unique yet not too out there. Truely an excellent design and the finish is very very good! Additionally, this is the first time I have seen a brushed ceramic bezel and can confirm that it looks excellent in the flesh!

These pics dont do the watch justice, but here we go:

The strap is genius, the rubber infused croco is unbelievably comfortable and very handsome! The deplyant clasp is also excellent and very comfortable, I had originally feared it would be of the torture device variety favored by the likes of Panerai, the ones where you would not be able to wear unless your wrist was the size of a broomstick due to the extreme curve. This one however is nive and flat across its length with the curve at the end, just like the ones made by Breitling and JLC.

The movement is the very good in house developed HUB SQ44, unfortunately the finishing on this implementation is limited to the technical aspect with a little visual interest added at the back.

The case finishing is very good as well, but not on par with what you would find on a Panerai or IWC. Not complaining though, considering the features, innovation, and visual appeal of this piece it is still great value in my book and I really am enjoying wearing it! It tops off my exploding collection nicely

Glad that you like it Altair. Yet more evidence that we don't always share the same tastes, but it's certainly a step forward for Hublot. Hope that you feel better soon.

I'm going to have to say this very VERY quietly, but................*whisper*..... this is a Hublot that I could actually like!

I have to say Altair, but this looks like a very nice watch : so much nicer than the standard BB IMO. However it's the fact that it now has an in-house movement that really raises this piece, and almost justifies the massive price.

The rubber/croco strap reminds me of the also excellent straps that came with the Corum Bubble models.

I like it.

awesome watch Altair. I said it before and I will say it again...i like hublot. think that they make a great looking watch. but they do seem to catch alot of crap from people. visually i think they are stunning. not quite sure about movements since i really dont know anything about movements so at the end of the day i base my judgement on visual. great looking piece

It's not for me, but I am glad to see that Hublot now has an in house movement. Is the writing directly on the crystal??

Congrats on the pick up Altair...it just adds more variety to your already impressive collection.

i know alot of people say they look very much like the ROO. But aside from the screws on the bezel thats where the difference stops IMO.

Driver, I agree that the standard price is too high, even hough this watch does have a lot going for it, I would pay close to retail. The only reason I did pick it up is that I got it for over 40% off at around 11,800 USD which in my opinion is bargain considering there is no other watch in that price range that offers an in house movement, contemporary design, and uses exotic materials like tungsten carbide and ceramics. I have to say that wearing the watch for the past two days I have really grown to love it even more, it really is visually stunning and seems to get allot of positive comments from people, even those who are not into watches.

I also agree that it is a huge upgrade from the standard BB, a watch that I would never consider buying!

By the way, do you find the videos or the pictures more desirable in my reviews? I think the video offers a more natural look into these watches, but if people prefer pictures I can focus on taking those instead in the future.

I got a better feel for the watch from the video. Love the skeleton dial, just gorgeous...is the bezel tungsten or ceramic?. Great pick-up.

Thanks Roff. And yes, I think since my PAM addiction and your picking up the RJ we have established that our tastes differ most of the time!!
