Ok. So. i have been thinking about this for a few hours now.

Im sure my UK brethren will know who "watch finder" are. They are a great place for 2nd hand watches but also provide rather sizable discounts on new watches. Recently they have launched there "24/7" online magazine, rather cool. got some good stuff. however they have now started interviewing brand's such as Bremont:

http://247.watchfinder.co.uk/the-inside ... th-bremont

Now. I cant help but feel this is a rather indirect insult as watch finder are promoting large discounts on there brand, therefore lowering the brand value.i dont know why Bermont would take part in this? its basically saying "hay! we undercut retailers and lower your RRP to make a quick buk, can we interview you?"...

My opinion:

Keep 24/7 as a review site and dont insult brands by interviewing them in an attempt to seem like a reputable AD, your not. Your a undercutting website trying to destroy proper AD's in an attempt to make money by lowering the value of watch brands.

I would be interested to here other peoples opinions?

I understand that perspective, and broadly agree, but with a slightly different perspective.

I don't fault the retailer for trying to increase exposure, I do fault the brand for agreeing to it. Bremont has had a huge amount of exposure in the watch press in the last 12 - 18 months, and the cynic in me thinks that they have paid for at least some of that coverage. I suspect that they decided here that the benefit of increased exposure outweighed the inherent hypocrisy.

Watchfinder generally don't undercut dealers. They do offer competitive discounts to many AD's out there (and you do get everything in the box with serial no's). And they are a good company to deal with. Where do you think Watchfinder get their watches? Why, AD's of course. So don't blame Watchfinder - blame the AD's who are happy to supply the grey market!

But then we're back to blame the brand for not enforcing their AD agreement and penalizing ADs that sell to the grey market, and we've done the full circle to why the brand would allow itself to be interviewed by a grey market company.

Watch politics aside, I get the impression that most of the people at Watchfinder share a common passion - for watches. I read 24/7 as simply a reflection of this with intelligent, well-written topics of general interest. We can all draw our own conclusions.
