Hi all, Well although i fell in love with the Panerai 111 after i got it i found it just wasn't quite right for me as being polished SS it just marked to easily and i don't live the sort of life where i can spend the time worrying about marking up my watch and after my UTS 1000M arrived it just sat in its box which is not why i buy a watch i like to actually wear them. Anyway the Pam sold last night so of course the money is already burning a whole in my pocket and i have been looking at two watches to replace the Pam first up is a Wyler Tantalum, Titanium Carbon Fibre 1 of 88 but at a greatly reduced price from its $24,000 suggested retail. I absolutely love the look and style of this watch as they say it just sings to me in a big way. The problem with it is Wyler are no more but then as it has an ETA movement any good watch maker should be able to service it but that is a worry plus from what i can tell it is extremely hard to impossible to get straps. Do those factors alone mean i really shouldn't consider this at all especially as i only have until tomorrow late lunch time to decide? To be honest I'm worried about buying in haste and repenting at leisure on this one. The second watch of interest is a Linde Werdelin The One Black Dial IMO very similar in look and style to the Wyler but comes from a very much still in business company and it comes with rubber, fabric, SS and a crocodile strap as well as buckle and deployment at around the same cost as the Wyler with just one Nubuck strap and deployment plus no rush to have to buy it either. All thoughts would be welcomed as minute to minute my choice changes and I need to decide by the time i wake up tomorrow or I'll miss out on the Wyler. Marc |

First off; I know little about high $ watches. I am a collector of other valuables however. Typically if a known extreme high quality manufacturer goes out of business then those items climb in value. If the watch has a known (and thus repairable) movement that would be the main maintenance concern. The case is just a block of metal which will not wear. |

Wyler is available with very heavy discounts as it's so overpriced to start with. The fact that they aren't around isn't a huge deal, may ultimately affect availability of crowns, hands, etc though. For me, the LW is the better watch anyway. |

@ lightguy, I do understand what you are saying but am not really looking at buying a watch as an investment just for my pleasure but thanks for your comments and you may be right in a few years due to its rarity and precious metals it may indeed be worth more then i pay for it although that is far from being the reason i would buy it. @Roffensian I agree the Wyler is seriously over priced to start with and normally wouldn't consider one due to that however much i like one but when i say at a huge discount i really do mean a huge saving off the suggested retail of $24,000 it would cost me under 20% of that figure and less then the Linde Werdelin. Not sure why you feel the LW is the better watch as they both use hardly modified at all ETA movements where as the Wyler has thier patented Incaflex shock proofing as well as thier IMO very unique shock absorbing movable case mounting. I did forget the other point of the Wyler that it comes with its amazing leather and stainless steel box which really is the best i have seen of any watch box with lots of extra space but no paper work or tools as it appears this is how the remaining stock was sold off once they stopped trading. I wish i could say a good nights sleep has helped me arrive at a decision but unfortunately it hasn't although I've had no response from the person selling the LW so maybe i should take that as a sign. Oh well I've got 4 1/2 hrs to decide if i really want the Wyler or not after which it will be gone and i doubt the same opportunity will arise again I'm going back to sleep now due to pain and meds and i suppose if i wake up in time or not will be the first sign of what to do but thanks for your input. I never wear the box so really don't care how good it is. The movements are virtually the same, but I find LW fit and finish to be far superior. Sure Incaflex is different, but that doesn't mean better - there is a reason why incabloc and Kif dominate the market - they do it better! |

Hi Roffensian, I do understand what you are saying and i have missed out on that particular Wyler for now as something odd was going on with the bidding a new bidder with zero feedback joined in late and was pushing the price up so i stopped bidding as something just didn't feel right about it will wait to see if i get a second chance offer at which point i will only proceed if it goes back down to before that IMO nonsense started. I still do think at under £2500 it did seem like extraordinary value as really do like the design of it. The LW The One is on hold pending clearing of funds and although that will be more expensive if it falls through he will get back to me so for now i can look around to find what i want whilst the money continues to burn a whole in my pocket but thanks for your views they are appreciated as sometimes just having some one else's opinions to consider i find really can help clarify things. Try to find some examples of the brand to hold and inspect - doesn't have to be the specific model that you are interested in, it will give you some idea of quality. |

Hi all, Just to conclude there was indeed something hooky with the bidding at the end as the seller has now contacted me with a second chance offer as i suspected would happen i can now have this watch at £2000 delivered!! That is an incredible reduction on the RRP of$24000 and about £1000 less then he paid in May but i have declined as no paper work or tools and the fact that in all my searching i haven't been able to find any replacement straps means i have decided to let this one go. Following the old philosophy of if in doubt don't. Marc |
