A colleague of mine was kind enough to lend me his Chopard L.U.C. Classic whilst I was on my break today.

I am a big fan of the L.U.C. Chopards. The quality of movements are very good for the price, in my opinion. Some even carry the Geneva Seal.

This example is exquisite and is finished to a very high level. A very nice dess watch indeed.

I now consider Chopard to be a watch manufacture that also makes jewellery.

What are your opinions of Chopard?

Chopard are undoubtedly a serious name in watchmaking. None of the pieces particularly appeal to me, but they have definitely established themselves as a serious watchmaker as far as I am concerned and they have been getting lots of press lately (although of course we don't know how much they paid for). There will always be some stigma I guess, but the product speaks for itself.

I'm not a huge fan of their Mille Miglia range, but their LUC models are very nice indeed..... if generally a little small for my taste. That said, they do a couple of 42mm pieces that are just about OK size wise.

Historically they've always suffered from being seen as a jewellery maker who also dabbles in a bit of watchmaking, but the LUC models (that are actually 15 years old now!) changed a lot of that impression........... but nowhere near as much as they probably should've considering the fact that they are very high quality.

Very nice watch, perfect movement, but the whole series is very tough to sell. The problem is, that Chopard is well known worldwide for their jewelry and jewelrywatches, but their high class watchmakers products are somehow not officially recognized.

i like them. as one of the oddities in this hobby that views watches as jewelry i don't mind their heritage in the least.
