That's impressive. There is one thing I don't understand, though. The technical section states the movement beats at 28,800, but the chronograph beats at 3.6M. My only watch education is pretty much from this site and I've never heard anything about a chronograph beat. What is this all about?

It has two ecapements - one for the watch and one for the chronograph.

That video was pretty awesome. Problem is that Tag seems to always have incredible concepts and ho-hum actual releases.

The site was nice and smooth too. Breitling should take note.

That video was sweet :wowzers

I would love to see that watch in action

On the flip side I wonder what the service interval is for a watch like that

I wonder how many hours this thing stays wound for?

The regular movement has a normal 42 hour power reserve. The chronograph has a rather pointless 150 second power reserve.

:yeahthat I just don't get Tag at all. As you say RJ they produce some seriously amazing concept pieces (more than any other maker I can think of), and then just churn out their usual faceless pieces for the mass market. It's like there's a decent watch manufacturer in their somewhere just trying to get out!

This is not a watch for sale, its a technology demonstrator.

I think part of it is market perception, look at what happened with the Monaco V4. Granted that watch took a long time to get from concept to production because of technical difficulties but Tag just couldn't sell them because of market perception of the price point for a Tag. Even the unique piece that they produced for the 'One Watch' charity auction in Monaco sold for considerably below list price while everything else was going for 1.5x list or more as it was charity.

Very true, so why do they bother? As far as I know, no other manufacturer at Tag's level (or even a few places above) bothers to invest so much time and effort into producing innovative concept pieces that'll never see the light of day. If they want to change market perception, they need to start producing better "standard" watches for the public to buy : they can't churn out boring ho-hum stuff for years and years, and then expect people to be all over mega-expensives pieces like the V4. It's like just about being able to hit a tennis ball, and then expecting to ranked number 1 at Wimbledon! They need some stuff going on in between first!

Well the cynic in me says that it's because Joe Public often doesn't know the difference. They come up with something weird and wacky that gets them huge amounts of press, some of which crosses in to the mainstream and then someone looking for a 'decent' watch picks up a copy of WatchTime at the local store sees an article on an amazing new Tag and then goes to the watch store and says "let me see the Tags, I read about how wonderful they are".
