Post subject:  Opinions wanted: Perrelet Skeleton Dual Time Chronograph

Hi everyone,

I have not been posting here much since last summer...due to back and neck problems I have not been able to spend any time at the computer except for work. I do miss daily my online watch fix. After many months of physical therapy and some new ergonomic chairs, I am gradually getting better, and I hope to become a more regular participant here again.

I picked up this beautiful Perrelet Skeleton Dual Time Chonograph in 18K RG this past week at an extremely good price. It is brand new. I had never seen a Perrelet in person, but in photos it looked gorgeous and I have been lusting after a skeleton. IMHO the gold version of this model looks quite a bit nicer than the steel.

I am deciding whether keep this or pass it along. At this price point, I had better be screaming in love with it. I am almost screaming, but I just can't decide.

The movement is a skeletonized 7750 with the 2nd timezone complication. I believe the skeletonization process is similar to what is used by Chronoswiss for the Opus which is called "spark erosion," but I am not certain. It is a more automated process than most of the other high-end brands use and thus provides a lower price point. So it is not quite as artistic as IWC or JLC, but it is still quite an eye-catcher. The hands are probably not blued by flame, but they are still reflective which is nice.

The dial has quite a bit of depth to it, as you can see here. In person, the steel surfaces of the movement sparkle much more than in discernible in the picture.

The one annoying thing is that the crown is quite recessed in the full-in position, making the watch rather difficult to wind. Especially if you happen to be a big guy with non-dainty fingers. Otherwise, the quality of construction is top notch.

Whattaya think?? Is it a keeper?

Did you pick that up from Jon? - edit, I recognize the t-shirt in the photos as his so you did - great seller!

It's a great looking watch - looking a little too much like a Chronoswiss for my personal tastes, but it is a beautiful piece, and great value for what it is. Glad that you are starting to get back to normal, I know that back and neck issues can take some time - my wife is still in physio after a car accident last August.

You won't find a comparable piece for that price so if you can justify the cost and will wear it then I say keep it.

I've come very close to buying the SS version with the same dial on more than one occasion. Nice size, well done case with coin edged sides, and they can be had for super discounts - I was quoted a price of $5500 on the SS/white dial piece. It remains on the radar.

Nice pick up!!

Indeed I did! He is in Seattle, too, which is a big plus for me. This is the first I have done business with him, and he was a pleasure to deal with.

I agree that it is like the Chonoswiss, which I also like a lot, but this is larger and is much better sized for me. It has a more solid feel to it as well. So in a way, it was its similarity to the Opus that attracted me to it.

Shark, I have also seen the SS for around that price. Given the low street prices currently on Perrelet, they do seem to be a good value. The brand seems to have an excellent design team (IMHO). I hope that they are able to keep the brand going and make it a success.

I don't know anything regarding the quality of their movements, though. So far, this seems to be running about -10s per day, but I will give it a few weeks to break in before passing judgement.

@Roff, I have been living with chronic head pain for about 5 years now. I regard this as an utter failure of the medical system, which actually made it much much worse during the first 2 years with wrong diagnoses plus arrogant physicians who looked at me like I was crazy when I suggested that the medications that they had prescribed were making things worse. It took 2 years just to get on the right track, and even though things have been getting better, it is only because I keep moving on to newer doctors, each one of which puts together another piece of the puzzle. I wish your wife the best of luck because once pain becomes chronic, your odds of finding relief drop dramatically. If mine had been treated properly at the beginning, I would not be where I am now.

Jon is without a shadow of doubt one of the good guys, and his knowledge and understanding of these pieces is exceptional.

In terms of my wife, I think that we were lucky getting a reasonable insurance company (doubtless helped by not being at fault) and a good physio, things are definitely getting better but it's a slow process.

Good luck with your own recovery.
