Well gents, I am in a particularly tough dillema. My Panerai AD called to confirm that the Panerai would be here in three weeks and required a down payment. Great news right? Not entirely, as the price of the 2008 model was subject to the price increase, which was significant

I had originaly compared two somewhat similar watches before deciding on the 98, the other was the JLC Memovox. Both have similar sizes, the Memovox somewhat sportier and more stream lined and better made, feels like a VC. The 98 had the extra GMT feature and a more buissness like look. The movement in the JLC is completely in house developed and beutifully decorated, while the 98 uses an excellent and well modified and decorated third party movement.

A togh choice, but I had decided that the 98 was the coolest RAD put there and would just go with it, now with the price hike I can still get a 2007 PAM 210 AND the JLC Memovox (35% off) with the price of the 98 (full 2008 retail)

I am going to make the decision this week and asked my PAM AD to give me some time to ponder.

I must say, having heard both alarms, I am leaning towards the JLC. Here are two youtube videos of both watches:

The JLC (wait till the end):

The PAM 98:

What do you guys think?

Personally, being a great fan of Panerai I'd have to say go for the JLC...jeez, in-house movement and all, what more could you want - and for the price!!

The Memovox doesn't actually rock my boat at all, but in terms of the movement I'd go for that alone - on a leather strap. Or for a little more an AMVOX on leather strap...yum yum!!

Just my 0,02€

Looks like I am going in that direction. I can't believe Panerai's new prices, I hope they dont price themselves out of the market. They were an excellent value and a solid buy in 2007.

Now what base Rad to get?

Altair, out of those two I'd go with the JLC Memovox.

I really like Panerai, but the Radiomir models just don't do it for me. I think Panerai's need the crown guard to look truly geat.

The JLC looks a superb piece in that Youtube clip. Worth it for that excellent caseback alone. And obviously the alarm on it is brilliant!

Well guys I am having a TOUGH time choosing between the two. The JLC is by far the better watch, with a cool and fresh design but a bit too sporty for everyday wear. I just LOVE the design of the PAM 98 but the price and awfull sound are a deal breaker.
