still trying to learn as much about Panerai as i can. from my understanding both these watches have sandwich dials and both use the 1950 case. the only difference is the in house movement and date window that the 312 has is this correct?

You are correct about the in house movement and the date window on the 312. The 312 also has a brushed case with a polished bezel where the 111 has a polished case. The 111 is hand wound instead of an automatic. Also, if I am not mistaken the 111 does not have the 1950 case (I'm not 100% on that one).

Both are beautiful watches, but if you can afford the difference then the 312 is the way to go IMO.

:yeahthat

john's correct, the 111 doesn't have the 1950 case. Plus the 312 has a display caseback.

The two posts above pretty much cover it. Both have a sandwich dial and a display back, but they wear somewhat differently. The 1950 case of the 312 sits higher and feels larger on the wrist to me. Both great watches but the 312 is better value if you ask me.

I dont know, but to give you perspective, the 1950 case is usually only used on some in-house pieces and pieces with nice complications. i.e. the more expensive models.

I'm looking at both watches as we speak, I'm going to end up going with the PAM 111 because I just bought a Super Avenger and cant afford the 3 grand more. But like said above, the 312 is the way to go. I just tried on one in New York City over the weekend, and to say the least I was blown away.

312 is a great piece. so are you saying the price difference between the 111 and 312 is 3G?

312 retails for $7400 and 111 for $5600. I think used, the difference is about $1500. (5.5k vs. 4k).

If I can find a 312 for 5.5k I will be a happy man.
