Recently, Roff suggested that I invest in a staking set as it was a versatile watchmaker's tool. However, I have no idea what the use for it is... Can someone fill me in?

More specifically, what can staking sets be used for and how can one actually learn to use it?

What can't a staking set be used for.

Seriously, when you get one you will be amazed at the number of uses they have.

There are a few guides to using staking sets that come up on eBay and a number of the watchmaking guides have chapters on it. The concept is very simple - you have a stake and an anvil (oversimplifying, but close enough) and bring the two together to reshape / adjust / join / separate pieces.

One of the most common uses is for inserting or removing arbors in wheels, but it can also be used for jewelling, for enlarging wheels, opening or closing holes, etc, etc, etc

Haha, ok I get your point. I will definitely look into getting one soon. I made a nice profit from literally doing nothing. Selling the Longines movement for four times what I bought it for
