Post subject: | Winder / Maintenance advise required |
Hi guys I will apologise in advance of my dumb question... Let me set the scene, in the last couple of months a few houses in the area have been burgled, which has made me think about how I stored my watches, I used to just leave the ones I wasn't wearing on a winder to be ready for its next use. This week I bought a safe, installed it and now my watches live in there when not on the wrist. My question is . . . Is there a best way to wind the watches to keep them in tip top condition. I had been lead to believe the use of a winder was good for the watches movement (lubes etc) and manually winding could cause some strains. Should I put on a winder on constant every day or so for a couple of hours instead of winding. Is this really a problem or am I inventing one. Sorry again, I love watches but am really a novice when it comes to the movements etc Thanks John |

Practically, there is no issue with hand winding as long as you are careful with things like screw down crowns (avoiding cross threading). You can also get winders designed to operate in a safe. |

Thanks Roff my safe is really quite small! My winders are mains and battery operated but way too large to fit in the safe Oh and I read your thread on the Zenith and they should care more. They take your money they should step up the service. kind regards John |
