Got a chance to look at the no-date (and therefore no cyclops) Submariner twice today, and fell just a tiny bit in love with it. Any thoughts on this particular model? Didn't get a chance to take any wrist shots, unfortunately, but I was definitely taken with it.

Because of the cyclops on most of the other models I'd otherwise be interested in, I hadn't given Rolex too much thought, so I'm curious to hear what opinions other people have on the brand/this watch in particular?

And for the This Thread Is Useless Without Pics crowd:

Are you looking for the date or no-date version? I think that changes quite a bit on the price...

not really sure about that. So i can t say exactly what i priced. I have a friend who has the green bezel 50 ed. But i am told they make more money now then when they were new in 07. As stated only started to check them out but probably will end up with one. . .

Well anez... it was nice knowing you, . C'mon, is the weather over there fogging your thinking? Ha!

I too am no fan of the cyclops. The old Sea Dweller w/date would be the only Rolex that would ever come close to my liking.

Otherwise, I know nothing about them.

Hmmm. Last time I was at the AD, I had meantioned that I don't care for the cyclops and that was one of the reasons for not owning a Rolex. He (might have.... :) ) said that he new someone (wink wink) that would uncase a Rolex, soak the crystal in some sort of acid to loosen the cyclops, case it back up and pressure test..... That got my attension.

There is no such thing is darkness; only the absence of light.

On topic, I really do enjoy the Sub C I recently picked up. The glide lock clasp is everything the Deep Sea clasp is not. And I do like an entirely brushed bracelet given the link style on the Rolex bracelets. Personal preference.

Completely agree, I bought my SeaDweller from him and would deal with him again without any hesitation.

The no-date Sub is a great watch. It's slightly older in design than the date model - case is 0.5mm smaller in diameter, and the bracelet has hollow end links.

You can remove the cyclops from the date models, but I believe it's a bit more complicated with the newer models because there is AR coating under the cyclops which also has to be removed.

I will say this - having owned at least 6 cyclops watches, the rolex cyclops is in a league of it's own. It doesn't give off wierd images and is crisp, clear, perfect in function. The single worst one - bar none - was on the Pam 287. They must get those from the same folks who make prizes for Crackerjacks boxes. Even the Xezo cyclops was better.

Ain't nothin wrong with Rolex. I've been dying for either a SubC, a GMTIIc or an Explorer II. I think the Sub No Date is actually a great looking watch, very classic styled Rolex but I think that not having a date would drive me nuts. Still I really like them and think that they're great looking watches. I know that you've mentioned having small wrists, being a girl and all, and personally I think Subs look great on women, at 40mm they're small enough that you can pull it off but also big enough to look like a big watch. Did that makes sense? Cameron Diaz wears one in the movie Night & Day, horrible movie by the way, but the watch looks good on her.

Nice choice. It's got such a classic look that so many other manufacturers try to emulate and while I do prefer a watch without a cyclops (a deterrent from me buying a Panerai sooner), for some reason, they work on a Rolex. Your particular model is beautiful and very similar to the DeepSea which I'd like to get someday due to its larger size and absence of a cyclops.

And don't think of it going to the dark side - consider it a broadening of your horizons.

Good luck!

I am seriously considering the sea-dweller as my next pickup near the end of this year. The hard thing is to find a good one used since its discontinued.

EDIT: just found this video on youtube showing the sea dweller in more detail
