I'd guess most of you use this site or one like it for checking/setting the time of your watch

http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Eastern/d/-5/java

The OCD part of me wants the watch to be exact when I set it, but I often go back to check it from time to time just to see how close it is. Problem is I feel there is always just a bit of lag between me watching the web site and me looking at my watch or the reverse (watching my watch and looking up to see the time on the screen).

Solution; I found this site http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/cgi-bin/timer.pl while it does not update itself it is pretty hand for keeping the computer cursor on the refresh button, watching the second hand of the watch hit a particular number while anticipating and clicking the mouse. For example I'll wait for the second had to approach the "10" mark, hit refresh right then and look up and check the web page. Hope this helps the obsessive, like me, waste some more time. Any other good methods or sites out there?

On to my question. The first week I had my new watch it was off (typically fast) 8-10 seconds a day. After just about a week it settled in nicely to a few seconds a day (again fast). This past Saturday I set the time and decided to leave it alone for as long as I could stand it. As of today (6 days) I have not touched it and it is just about one second slow. I see lots of selling post where people say the watch keeps great time and typically say something like "a few seconds a day". What is typical? I am pretty darn happy with one second slow over 6 days. :D I know the COSC deal it -4/+6 but wondering what is what most of you see real world? I know it really does not matter, but just curious what you see. Do you even care?

Nope.

You'll stop obsessing over time. Your watch isn't wrong by 1 second over 6 days, it's wrong by net 1 second over 6 days - at times it is gaining, at others it is losing, as long as it equals out to within COSC specs then I am happy - if I want something accurate to the second I'll but a $10 quartz.

Oh man there ya go bursting my bubble. I do check it about twice a day and it has been right at that one second mark every time. It must be gaining and losing when I am not "watching" :P

The watch isn't meant to keep super-accurate time, so don't go torturing yourself over the little things. I check to see how much the watch is gaining/losing during date changes or after I get a new peice - everything else, IMO, is overkill.

The "lag" you refer to is fractions of a second and amounts to a hill of beans. Frankly, most cell phones are more than adequate to set your watch by.
