I purchased an OMEGA Speedmaster Professional from an AD in Sept. 09. Within a couple of months I had scratched the chrystal so I went back to the AD and they sent it in for a no-cost replacement. OMEGA sent me an estimate for $277 which included a Partial Maint. SVC and replacing of all the hands. My first thought was, why would the hands need replaced on a brand new watch? Neither OMEGA or the AD ever gave me an answer that made any sense. Eventually the watch came back, chrystal replaced, at no-cost to me. I called OMEGA and asked about the serial number/build date (77205426) and they told me it was built in 1999, ten years before I bought it. They told me it was shipped to the AD in July 09 and I bought it in Sept. 09. Does any of this make any sense? TIA, Mike |

Can't comment on the serial number, but obvious thing is to ask Omega why they didn't ship it to the AD until 10 years after they produced it. In terms of hands, most companies (including Breitling) use friction fit, single use hands and they need replacing with every service. |

The 77 million range may have been built closer to 2006. See http://www.clockmaker.com.au/rolex_serial_numbers.html for Omega serial number/build date info. It starts with Rolex dates but scroll down to the Omega references. |
