Been checking out different brands and thinking that longer term I might want a chrono as the next watch. So far my short list are the three below. I am bit all over the place, but really like all of them for different reasons. Any thoughts or tips? This one just has to be the orange version. I really like the black strap with orange stitching over the bracelet. ![]() For some reason this one really sings to me. Nice story about Kobold in iW mag. too. ![]() Guessing this will be a big hit here. ![]() The planet ocean seems to be the leader in price, but I have time to look and wait for a decent deal used perhaps. In reading about the Kobold (here I think) I stumbled upon the all black PVD Cave Dweller by Boschett. Not a chrono and totally different league, but that could potentially be an "extra" watch for knocking around in and to see if I like the all black look before jumping into the Kobold. What ya think? |

Of the three, I like the Code Yellow the best. I've been looking into chronographs for a 2011 purchase and I'd say that something from the Navitimer range would be a great addition to any watch collection. Zenith also make tremendous chronographs. The 36000 VPH that sharkman owns is gorgeous, IMO. http://www.zenith-watches.com/en/#/coll ... ow/3/9/144 And for something a bit different you maybe could consider something from the Seiko Ananta line. These use Seiko's Spring Drive movement which is truly a feat of engineering. http://www.seikowatches.com/products/an ... g_d_c.html As far the the Cave Dweller, it's a nice watch but I'd be a bit wary about how well that PVD will age. If I were to get one I'd stick to the SS version, which is very nice BTW. |

The Code Yellow would be first for me followed by the Omega. |

The Code Yellow is awesome, but given a choice from the three I'd go with the Omega. |

So no love for the Kobold, eh? Wrong forum for this or is there something inherently not likable? I like the crown on the other side, I actually like the fact that it is hard to read in a way. Also, don't think you would see too many in daily use. Seems like a good watch to start conversations with...comes with a couple of straps too. Which after my recent phone purchaseS with George at Govberg has me anxiously waiting for a delivery ![]() Anyone seen the Kobold in person? |

I always find Kobold to be a lot of cash for what they are. Plus (in the case of the watch you've pictured) I hate PVD/DLC coatings so it'd be a complete no-no for me. |

The DLC is what attracted me at first...perhaps that is because I am so new to higer end watches. It just looks bad a$$ to me. However that code yellow really screams don't eff with me, if that is possibe for a watch. I was just sort of leaning toward a non Breitling next for some reason...but I do love the code yellow. Now after poking around ebay and TimeZone a bit I am also digging vintage watches. Have seen a few from the 60s/70s that I really like. Figure with my limited knowledge there is more chance to make a bad decisions though. Keep the ideas coming. Iantheklutz, I liked the zenith a lot, but not really what I am after. The seiko was interesting. I have seen some IWC Chronos I liked, a bit more understated and classy. So many...so manny ![]() |

It looks great on the bracelet, on leather/croc, rubber, and nato. I've had mine on all 4 and the watch looks at home on all 4. Can't say that about many other watches. As far as being too common, I have yet to see one in the wild. I agree that they are common on the boards here but that's about it. I went to US Open (tennis not golf) last summer and saw mostly rolexes, some bretilings, a patek, but no omegas. |

Planet Ocean! ![]() Having said that, I like the Code Yellow too. Even as a former Kobold owner I would put the Omega and the Breitling way ahead of that one. |

Code yellow: the highlights on it are a bit more subtle. The Orange on the PO is a bit too "look at me". The Kobold doesn't do it more me at all. |

I guess the relative "commonness" of a watch is a regional thing. Where I am there are loads of Omega AD's and as a result I see a lot of orange bezel PO's - admittedly more non-chronos than chronos, but quite a few all the same. It really does seem to me that 99% of people who buy expensive watches are a) non-WIS folk, and b) tend to buy from whatever brand has an AD on their doorstep. As a result I never see (for example) JLC's on anyone's wrists around here, and I pretty sure it's because the nearest JLC AD I'm aware of is over 60 miles away. |

No luck on google finding anything watch related and the site glossary says nothing, not even any "W" entries. No luck on the Sales abbreviations / acronyms either. I would agree that most buy what is close to them. A guy I work with has a Colt, seems to like watches in general but has no real passion about watches. I asked him why the colt and he said he was at the mall, walked into the jewelry store and liked it. Can't blame him for that. Not to get too far side tracked, but here is one of my bicycles...I think it will be evident why I like that particular Planet Ocean and why I am lusting after a coral dialed SO ![]() ![]() ![]() |
