Post subject:  What are you hoping to see at Basel?
Well this years SIHH was exceptional, and has left me with four watches that I absolutely must own! Panerai, AP, and Jaeger hit home runs with their releases and although the Jaegers are not for me, their target market is ecstatic. IWC left me underwhelmed, though I will say their new straps are superb. But all in all very good SIHH. I am almost hoping for a terrible Basel as my finances cant take more of a beating, but there are a few watches I would like to see:


From Breitling:

A 46mm Navitimer with a B01 movement please! Ala World with no GMT function (I can only imagine that Breitling will overcharge for adding that complication to the B01)

An updated modern classic! Something to raise the level of excitement and breath life into a brand that many think lost its flare. Something simply designed, like the steelfish, with design elements from proven Breitling designs such as the classic Chronomat. Yes I know I have often said that Breitling should stick to its roots, but I want innovativeness as well without losing the brands DNA unlike all the new freaky deeky Galactic stuff. If I could design a completely new Breitling model it would be something like this:

A 45.5 MM diver, Steelfish-like dial (NO SQUARE OR DIAMONDS PLEASE!!!!!!) a divers bezel based on the classic Chronomat bezel design in ceramic. A fast strap change system, integrated bracelet based on current designs, with a non chrono in house movement, a B02 maybe.
A pipe dream I know, but whats life without fantasies?

Just one thing, FOR THE LOVE OF THE ALMIGHTY PLEASE!!!! A Speedmaster in a 44mm+ case with a manual wind movement and a display back, dont even care for in house or not. PLEASE!

Rolex:

A modern Daytona. Really easy, just apply what you did to the Submariner to create the Deepsea to the Daytona, and add a date for God;s sake! Its not the middle ages you know :?

Anything new, even if its ugly and overpriced if just for the sake of changing things up!!!

Zenith:

Well Zenith is another brand that has been doing very well since that pompous Nataf went away, and I can only hope they dont come out with a 44mm+ classically styled El Primero as I really dont want to buy another watch this year!

What about you guys?

Two things:

1) A new breitling Emergency
2) A cool rolex that's bigger than 40mm...a big GMT II or Daytona for example.

Interesting topic.

I'm not sure that I am specifically looking for a radically new watch from Breitling, I would rather see a conservative design year with the addition of a second (third, fourth....) in house movement. Perhaps some clarity over the Windrider range and some rationalisation of the Aeromarines - some more TransOcean like watches appeals to the vintage lover in me. Also wouldn't be too sad to see the death of the Bentleys (as a range) with reworked versions of the big sellers into the mainstream ranges.

In terms of other manufacturers - Rolex doesn't appeal so not on my radar, I always take an interest in Omega but they aren't a big part of my collection so there is nothing that I am waiting on. I am actually a little disappointed with how far Zenith has swung towards conservatism (although I do like the tourbillon) so not sure that there is anything there, although their special / limited edition pieces always look good so will be taking an interest.

Taking an interest in Ulysse Nardin and hoping for an in house movement with an attractive case, and always excited by new Glashutte Original pieces - especially any additions to the Panomatics. Breguet pieces are always exciting and PP of course always produce some beautiful pieces.

I don't have any specific pieces that I am waiting on, but certainly looking forward to the watches as a whole.

The one thing I'm waiting for is a redesigned Rolex Explorer II. It was apparently supposed to happen last year. In the pics I saw from before Basel last year it was not too much different than the current one except that it had an orange GMT hand (looked a lot better than it sounds) and hopefully it'll have the new bracelet, like on the SUB and GMT. I'd also love to see it in 42mm but I doubt that they'd make it bigger than the SUB or GMT.

I'd also like to see Breitling put a non-chrono in-house in a Steelfish like watch, 42mm is fine for me, with a GMT function. I'm pretty sure that's not gonna happen though.

I have a few Breitling dreams that I don't think will be coming true anytime soon.

Blackbird with an in-house movement and a big date window just like the current Birds but please don't screw up the bezel!

SO Abyss, or SOHC with a ceramic bezel, non in-house is fine with me. I want a ceramic bezel from Breitling.

The release of a new in house calibre....please!! More Display-backs, a new rubber designed strap like the articulated rubber strap from JLC, and the use of Grade 5 titanium on a Seawolf.

Some more in-house movements from Breitling please, say in the world, blackbird, steelfish and SO watches (an in-house movement in a watch that can withstand depth i.e. for diving would be great for me). I like the transocean and don't necessarily need to see any newer models or modifications. Perhaps the use of some new metal conbinations and definitely some more db's.

I'm not looking at too much at the moment so will keep an open mind and hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Breitling:

Blackbird LE 01,display back and has to have same characteristics of the current Blackbird (i.e., big date, regular bezel). They could "mix it up" a bit, like moving the big date display to a different position like 6:00 or at 9:00

Rolex:

How about a 44mm Milgauss green crystal (WITH A DATE for cryin out loud)! I don't own a Rolex but this combo would change that. How about a wider bracelet for ANY of the current models that has NO taper. That option alone would scew me towards picking up a GMT or SUB.

Panerai:

A 312 in the Bronzo case. I would also like to see Panerai move towards smaller bridge plates and expose their movements more. It always seems like a shame to have a display back and a only get a view of what looks like a caseback with a rotor!

I can't afford the other brands that I stare at constantly so there isnt any point is complaining about them! :)

I'd like to see Rolex gmt pepsi/coke bezel in ceramic . I think we have seen a lot of what Breitling has up it's sleeve ALA Airwolf raven in tooty fruity colors , hoping they will drop something unexpected that can get them back on track.

The Rolex GMT with the pepsi bezel would be really cool to see. Someone mocked one up on TZ awhile back but I think they said they can't mix the ceramic or something so it'll never happen. I'm curious to see what upgrades the new Explorer 2 will have besides the rumored orange hand. I won't expect anything from Breitling after all the blacksteel models and the recent skyracers with the colored bezels.

Panerai brings out their new models at the SIHH show so you'll have to wait for next year.

i dont think so, the superavenger isnt breitling's best selling model for no reason. panerai just introduced a bunch of 27mm watches, 48mm corums are the only ones selling....i dont think its done yet.
