What exactly is Nouvelle Lemania? I know some Pateks and Roger Dubuis have base movements of Lemania, but what does that mean? And how exactly does a high end watch that uses a movement that really isn't in-house become certified with the geneva hallmark? Thanks, crasian1030 |

Nouvelle Lemania is a movement manufacturer. Lemania has been around with that name since 1930 (the company since the 1880s). It changed it's name to Nouvelle Lemania (New Lemania) in 1981 when it was spun off by its parent SSIH which eventually became Swatch Group. Nouvelle Lemania was bought by Breguet in the early 90s and became part of that group (GHB). In 1999 GHB was bought by Swatch Group and Lemania ended up back where it was nearly 20 years earlier. Geneva seal has nothing to do with anything except cosmetics - it's about the quality of the finishing of the watch and movement - nothing else. |

Ok, so even if the geneva seal only deals with the finishing and such, how does Patek and those very high end brands justify using non-in-house movements? To be honest, it takes away from the specialty and uniqueness of those brands. EDIT: Just saw your other post on the thread of in-house movements. No need to answer this one unless there would be a different response. Thanks |
