I have a Sparta 1 Deluxe. Like Rebel, I can't say enough good about it. The finishing on the case is outstanding - heavy lacquer, deep hue to the wood, truly gorgeous. It is also very efficient in terms of power usage, as Roff mentioned. It's still on the first set of batteries I put in it three and half years ago, and shows no signs of needing a change. My only reservation is the price. I thought it was expensive when I bought it back in '07, when full retail was just under $300. As you can see, the price has increased substantially since then. Then again, I guess you get what you pay for. If I'd gone with a cheaper winder, it might well be toast by now.

I have no experience with the Futura line, as I find the Sparta meets my needs just fine.

I'm looking to get a single Orbita/Sparta Winder but am confused on which to get..... The Futura one just spins and is programable, and the Rotowind one has the unique ability to swing back in forth. Does it make a diference on which route I go? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

First, the Orbita Sparta is a great winder. I have (2) two watch winders and cannont say enough good things about them. I would definitely look at the double winders. R/

The two I have function the same. They either wind (10) or (15) times per hour. Each individual winder can be either. I have noticed a few times a watch stopped while on the winder. I chalked it up to that the winder only keeps the watch wound, it does not wind it up. If I wind the watch and then place on the winder, they haven't stopped. Futura is essentially a 'dumbed down' tourbillon model that is a traditional programmable winder. The Spartas are designed to be very low power consumption as they are predominantly intended for battery operation so rely on gravity to assist with the winding. Either works well and there is plenty of detailed explanation on the Orbita site.

As soon as my next watch arrives in the next few short weeks(hopefully) I will be snatching up one of them as well!

I have a Sparta Orbita Deluxe as well, and I highly recommend it. Obviously I'm tempting fate here, but as the motor is only used to bring the head up through 180 degrees before letting gravity do the job of winding, it should last for a heck of a lot longer than the more traditionally fully powered heads. (Obviously now I've said that, I'll be telling your tomorrow how it's just broken down! )
