Hello,

I would like to buy a 'beater' (everyday watch in the $200-$600) with a few requirements;

*mechanical (automatic)
*chronograph
*46 mm
*bracelet

I don't even know where to start. can you guys give me a hand so i can try and figure this out.

I searched for a while and could not find any previous posts, with the answer i was looking for. Also the internet at my office is acting funny because of the storm (i live in NY), so i am sorry if i double posted.

Would that be a Breitling you are looking for or just any watch in general that meets your requirements?

If you want a swiss chrono (probably 7750 based) in that price range, youll probably have to look at used ones. Hamilton is a good brand to check out. If you have to buy new, your looking at spending around $1000.

If you just want an inexpensive Chinese watch, youll have a lot of options.

any watch. prob can't find a breitling in that price range.

i thought about an invicta, but all of their models are look alikes. i have not read much good about the brand on the site. so i skipped on the idea.

I just bought a Hamilton and it is awesome. As RJ said I spent about 1100. I would recomend that path.

I think you might be asking for to much for your price range. Does anyone else feel the same? (Just trying to help)

That's what I thought but just checking to be certain of your intentions.

If you could drop the Mechanical requirement then there are many watches that I would recommend.
Citizen comes to mind immediately. Just a thought.

Thats allot of watch in a limited budget. If you can do without the chrono, then the Seiko Stargate is probably the best bang for your buck ever.

If you still want a large chrono, look for a used Oris if you are lucky or strech the budget a bit and get a Steinhart.

If none of those work for you, something has got to give and you need to modify your requirements/expectations.

i have two great citizens, i just love the feeling of an automatic on my wrist. the subtle whispers that its there.

Hamiltons, from what i hear, are great watches. Some nice looking ones.

Invictas and Seikos are also highly regarded by watch people - although I have never owned one.

Another brand you may want to look into is Glycine. They first got me into the watch craze a while back.

I am going to second the Hamilton sentiment. I think that Hamilton, like Breitling does a really good job of offering a watch for all needs. For a beater I would check out their field watches with a leather or canvas strap. I think it is the Conservation Line.

There are plenty of nice watches sans chrono in that range, but the extra function is what will make your search a bit more difficult. I would def choose a Swiss non-chrono over a non-swiss chrono, but that is just me.

Finally, and maybe most importantly, stay away from the Invictas!

with you on everything you said. i think i will drop the chrono portion of the requirements. i looked at hamilton, but any of the ones i would take would be in the 1k. i just picked up a world and montbrillant datora for xmass so i really don't want to spend more then a couple hundred on this.
