Hey guys,

I just wanted your opinion on something real quick. I may be visiting New York again for Christmas and this time I really wanted to visit the FP Journe Boutique because I have been in contact with one of the sales associates and I have been treated very nicely (I've gotten a free ForbesLife featuring FP Journe, an invite to the 1 year anniversary with the founder, and holiday greetings in the mail)! I don't really want to be "just some random visitor to the store," so I am thinking of straight up telling the person I've been in contact with my story of age and interest in watches.

My question, which is what I want your opinion on, is whether or not you think telling her my age would make my experience better and more enjoyable at the boutique, or completely the opposite.

The arguments would be:

Enjoyable) I am 16 years old and probably the only kid who has ever had an interest in their watches that they would be aware of, and due to my interest at such a young age, they could view me as a prospective customer in the future.

Not so much) They could view my age and "passion" as a joke and completely disregard me and be upset that I "wasted their time."

Thanks,
Crasian1030

PS. This could actually be for all boutiques and manufactures, just the general opinion on the companies' responses to my age.

No need to share your age...just go and enjoy yourself. You handle yourself with class and dignity and I'm sure you will be treated the same...so your age should matter nor should it need to be revealed. Enjoy your time in NYC, it's wonderful during the Holidays. :santa:

I agree - be yourself and wear what you want. In my experience, many boutique stores in NYC are there to act as marketing arms of the company as well - people of all different walks of life and origins come through the door. I found the Panerai boutique to be more helpful and friendly than several of the local ADs here in Chicago.

As you would with anyone, be polite and ask as many questions as you'd like - that's what a boutique is for.

They should treat everyone with respect regardless of age / height / weight / wallet size / etc, if they don't then that alone is telling.

Enjoy the trip and treat your age as what it is - an irrelevance.

Thanks for the responses. I guess it's unanimous, age shouldn't be brought up, let alone be an issue! I suppose you guys are right, if age does become a problem, and they were to base it solely of my appearance, then I guess I can gauge the way the manufactures are in general towards anyone.

I have been to NYC once during Christmas time, but I forget how it was (too long ago), should be fun!

EDIT: and bummer. They are actually going to be closed the three days I'm in New York!
