From a previous thread about the heartbreak I went through letting go of my Vintage Submariner because I couldn't get it to fit me.

Hopefully the piece you are buying instead will more than make up for it though! Looking forward to the pics, and the inevitably excellent review.

Thanks Mr Driver, no pressure then

BTW, I'm not being coy about my new watch for the sake of dramatisation or anything else pathetic.

The Submariner is being traded for my new watch, plus a substantial amount of cash for me. The seller was incredibly generous and trusting enough to send me my new watch on appro for two days before I made my decision!

So, I do not want to announce my new watch until the new owner receives the Rolex. This was sent on Friday using Special Delivery. However with the current state of Royal Mail I have no idea how long it will take to get to Ireland.

Well, I’ve just had confirmation from the buyer that his new vintage Submariner  has been delivered. He sounds like a very happy man. :D

So I now feel comfortable announcing my new watch. Some of you may have gathered what it was going to be after a recent thread on here. Along with a four figure amount of cash I also received this amazing Zenith Defy Classic Aero Chrono El Primero as trade. I appreciate it’s a total contrast to the Submariner in every way. However, I wasn’t looking for a true replacement. Maybe in the future I’ll get another vintage Rolex tool watch but for now I am very content with this. I was contemplating using the cash to buy a fairly decent beater (like a second hand Planet Ocean or Seawolf) but I think I’ll use this as my beater instead. Might treat myself to a really nice hunter pocket watch. Who knows. I’m in no rush. Even my other awesome watches are taking second stage to this Zenith at the moment.

So here are some hastily cobbled together (and embarrassingly rubbish, to be frank) pictures of my new watch that I've just taken at work. A polarising design if ever there was one. But also with some impressive headlines: 46.5mm diameter, 17mm height, 300m WR, in-house 36,000 vph El Primero movement, DLC bezel, hidden clasp, etc. Look out for (significantly) better pictures in the very near future and a review sometime after Christmas. Let us get to know each other a little while first.

Looks nice, not a big fan of the bezel though...

The bezel looks a lot better when it's lined up :poke:

Nice pick up Ricardo. I am a big fan of Zenith, and unlike many I actually liked the Defys and am sorry to see them go. As you say a total contrast to the Sub, but definitely in the spirit of your extremely diverse collection.

Somehow Zenith took everything I don't like (DlC bezel, date magnifier, numerous colors) and made them work together into something I like. Congrats, enjoy your new "beater" watch.

I really like the Defy Classic models (not a fan of the Extreme models AT ALL however), and after initially liking the Open models, I've actually ended up liking the Aero the most. These ones with the black dial always remind me of the old Zenith Rainbow Flyback.... which is a very good thing IMO.

I have to say though I'm quite surprised you went for the 46.5mm one actually Ricardo : I was assuming you'd go for the 43mm version for some reason. How does it stack up size wise against your 44mm CM?

Nice pick up.

PS - And Roff''s right - there's something VERY wrong with that bezel! The part with the "60" on it is supposed to be at the top! I'd ask for a refund if I was you!

What are those Chrysler badges on the bezel?

Just kiddin' ricardo, nice pick-up

I think that would look awesome on a black Zenith rubber strap. Congrats on the new piece.

Certainly a departure from your forlorn Submariner but it sounds like a fair trade to me. This watch is definitely funky in all the right ways and I bet is a real attention-getter.

And not to pile on but.....get that bezel aligned! :poke:

Ditto. I feel like I shouldn't like this, but I really do, and I think it looks great on you-- love the unusual bracelet, it's a nice, different feature which makes the watch seem more beater/tool-y and also adds a little bit of something special at the same time. Looking forward to the full review.

Congrats and enjoy; hopefully the Submariner won't haunt you for too long now you've got some cash and a new watch to play with! :D

Thank You all for Your kind words. I have to say, I was expecting a few more negative comments. Its great to be amongst people who are also able to look beyond initial reactions of the aesthetics and appreciate a very nicely put together timepiece.

However guys, what's the big deal with the bezel being off centre? Maybe some sort of group councelling is in order  Just to appease you all here are a couple of quick and dirty shots taken at work this morning with the bezel in the centred position.

Thanks Sergio. Actually, I had already looked into this with my local AD (about 40 mils away). Not sure I'll bother. The hidden clasp bracelet is unique and comfortable. The rubber strap retails for £224!

Looking good, ricardo . For some reason these seem to work on smaller wrists, despite the size.

My old white-dial one says hello by the way:

I much prefer the black dial actually, but it wasn't an option where I got mine.

Well, the bezel is centered. But why is the second hand not?

Thanks for your concern, but the chrono second hand lines up perfectly.

The picture was taken at a slight angle.

Very cool watch Ricardo! Looks like there is some serious attention to detail on that piece! And an El primero is always a great thing :D Wear it in health!
