Any opinion on this particular watch? I found it nice looking and it is the first self developed movement by Cartier. Not particularly my kind of watch, but probably the only Cartier I would wear.

I like it. An AD near me stocks them and while I haven't handled one I think they look like very nice pieces. I also agree that this model is one of only two Cartiers I'd consider wearing (the other being the larger model Roadster..... if only it had an in-house).

I quite like it, but not enough to buy it - true of a number of Cartiers for me.

I think that the half baton / half romans dial would annoy me.

It's not a bad looking piece, but it's not my favorite in their lineup.

I've tried on two of them (black and white dials). Seems like a quality watch for the money. Cartier deserve to be taken seriously for making this one.

Would it kill them to offer styles on a bracelet? Not all of us are into straps.

Cartier is a master at promoting its brand. It's not innovative, it refreshes "classic" styling, and it doesn't bring anything "new" to the table. While I like the styling....a lot...wen you look at movements, materials, and styling, it's a pretty hefty premium considering others have been offering the same for far less.

I personally like the watch - I just don't think it's worth the premium just because it has the Cartier badge on it.

Do not agree with that at all.

Cartier has been tremendously innovative in recent years. Of course it starts with haute horlogerie pieces and will take a while to become mainstream, but they are a serious manufacture that has pushed the envelope a lot more than many brands recently (including Breitling).

I like the Cartier Calibre a lot! Additionally, in recent years Cartier has gone from a fashion statement to a true watch Manufacturer – just don’t say that to Patek Philippe. Cartier was able to gain the Geneva Seal largely due to acquisition – they bought facilities from Roger Dubuis & I read somewhere that it was rumored that Roger Dubuis actually made the Cartier Calibre like a private label for Cartier.

Apart from all this nonsense there is a similarity between the Cartier Calibre and Roger Dubuis Excalibur Series therefore maybe there is something to the rumor - lol. I personally, see the Cartier Calibre as an economical or Yugo version of a Roger Dubuis Excalibur. Oh I almost forgot as for Patek Philippe they were so incensed by Cartier and others that were able to get the Geneva Seal without earning it (Patek Phillipe feelings toward the subject) that they created their own seal and it is worth mentioning that Patek Phillipe was the bedrock of the Geneva Seal for over a century and a half!

I would buy the Cartier Calibre I like it & their customer service is impeccable! Before I knew anything about watches I bought a Cartier Must21 quartz & whenever I had an issue I would just walk into the 5th Avenue boutique here in NYC and the issue was resolved - they even offered loaner watches lol. Just in case we not familiar with the Must21 it is one of their least expensive watches & I was treated just the same as if it would of been the Tank Americaine (large - its mechanical, not quartz like it's smaller siblings).

On a related note, what are people's opinions about Cartier's watches with non-manufacture movements? I'd had my eye on a Roadster and Pasha Seatimer at one point, and still find them to be quite appealing watches. Neither are certified chronometers. Are they all flash and no substance, or is there stuff going on beneath the surface?
