Post subject:  Your Polishing/maintenance Arsenal
What do you guys use to maintain your watches? I know there are a few of us that just send it in for polishing every once in a while, but then there are many of us that like to maintain our own Breitlings. I use:

Fabulustre Polishing Cloth - for general day to day polishing of light swirlies.. useless for anything that is too big, but it puts that final polish that goes away with excessive handling. Perfect for right before going out.

Cape Cod Polishing Cloth - Great for something with a bit more juice. Wet Polishing compound is impregnated into the cloth and it adds a shine to deeper swirlies.

Micron Polishing Cloths - I use these for the next level up from Cape Cod. If the cod doesn't fix it.. i move to the microns. Also use the higher micron cloths for repairing brushed finishes. Its easy to find the right match if you have all the grits.

Dremel - For final mirror polish with Jeweller's white and red rouge for two-stage polishing.

Nail Polishing Block - For deeper brushed finishes where micron clothes fear to tread.

Fibreglass Brush - Occasional spot fixing, but this thing is not all that useful I find.

Admin,

Now this is a subject of great interest to me. I take my Lings in for polishing but I would like to be able to get rid of small scratches as they appear along the way. I think this Cape Cod deal sounds pretty good. I have one that I use on my rings called an Ultra Cloth and it's like a piece of Suede but it doesn't seem to do much on stainless steel . Is the Cape Cod cloth more powerful for removing scratches than a regular jewelry/gold polishing cloth ?

The cape cod cloth is quite different from the usual polishing cloth. It is a cloth that is sealed in a ziplock (comes in pairs) and its like felt material soaked with a polishing compound. Smells like vanilla and is really moist.. you have to keep it sealed, and what i do is rub the cloth all over the watch bracelet and case, then take a polishing cloth and buff the hell out of it.. then watch it with soap and toothbrush. That gets it nice and shiny.

where do I buy the Cape Cod cloth ? It sounds good, I do the toothbrush deal every night down here because with the humidity we have here in the summer by the evening the Ling is all smudged to hell. But I like the idea of being able to remove small scratches myself without having to wait to get my periodic polish jobs

All this fuss just to shine? Use tried and trusted methods.....

I use some extremely specialised and hard to come by surgical quaility instruments....

No.. for brushed stainless you can use that fiberglass brush or I use the 30 micron polishing clothes or a nail polishing block.
