OK, so as many or you know I am into 'unusual' watches at the moment - what some of you would consider weird, but I like to think of as unique.

I've found a few that I like, but I'm looking for some ideas of pieces that I may have missed. Please don't throw out mainstream names, I'm familiar with their offerings. I have two distinct types of watches that I am looking for:

1) Affordable - must be mechanical but I'm prepared to accept modified generic movements - Corum bubbles fot into this category as do Azimuth

2) Higher end - must be mechanical in house

So any ideas? I am considering Azimuth's Mr. Roboto so nothing is too 'out there'.

Does it have to be a 2010 you're going to get at an AD or can it be a few years old and you might find it NOS or used?

Not sure about your price range, but BRM has some out there pieces that are still beautiful.

How about this R50 for only 24K. French, don’t see that every day!

There are some interesting offerings from De Bethune, but likely prohibitively expensive MB&F as well…

The Robot is about 4k IIRC, so maybe something cheaper…

How about an Itay Noy:

ETA base movement (2824-2) but enameled dial, not too crazy looking and something different. Not nearly as out there as the Roboto… but Israeli watches are not something you see every day. Probably won’t get you laughed at…

What about a Rodolphe Instinct?

Then there is the Urwerk…

If you can put together like $180k Harry Winston has something to offer!

Yeah I was kinda guessing that was where you were going with the first ones

I've looked at several of the BRMs, they are up there in price for generic movements though. Itay Noy is a new one on me so that's worth looking at, and I had forgotten about Rodolphe.

I would like to keep the price below $20k new, and I'll happily consider used - clearly this isn't an every day watch so slightly hard to justify too much on something that will only be worn a couple of times a month.

In terms of being laughed at - I really don't give two hoots - way beyond the stage in my life where I cared what anyone else thought.

You might be able to find a piece by Vianney Halter used in that range Roff.

I'll buy it in a heartbeat if I find one at that price (same for Urwerk), Christies sold one a year ago with an estimate of CHF 30,000 - 50,000, ended up selling for CHF87,000

I actually got a chance to play with this watch at my AD. I was a huge fan of the BRM style before, so I was excited to see them first hand. Big disappointment. Nay, HUGE disappointment. The watch is so preposterously light weight that it feels like a toy. Fit/finish was decent, robustness was nil. It felt like a small bump could shatter it into pieces. BUT, the movement was damn cool to look at. Even at 30% off as offered, its a huge rip off.

EDIT: also, the crystal seemed so delicate that I felt like I could break it if I pushed hard enough.

While not nearly as out there as the other watches here, the Perrelet Turbine is certainly weird, and would fit into the affordable category. Its pretty neat too imo.

Pita Barcelona? Saw this a while back and I'm unsure of the size/cost of these pieces.

My favorites are the Carousel:

How about the ''Breguet''range, something along the lines of the ''Grande complication ,Minute Repeater and Perpetual Calender.or the ''Classique'' or,if you're into a bit of bling, the ''Classique Grande Complication.

I know you have a Titanic, but the RJ Moon Invader is definitely on the weird side and rare enough that I don't anticipate seeing on anybody's wrist anytime soon.

If you end up with an Urwerk, I want to see a review!

I think that you missed my budget numbers.

I also wouldn't describe any of those as weird - incredible, gorgeous, amazing, etc yes, weird - no.

Yeah I kinda like that, not sure that I'm ready for another Romain Jerome right now though - too many brands that I don't have.

Never heard of them, but definitely worth looking into - they are kinda funky if the cost isn't excessive.

I've looked at a few different turbines and never quite felt like pulling the trigger, but I do like them (especially the orange), and with Govbergs carrying them it might be worth some enquiries.

Thanks for the ideas guys, already a couple of brands that I wasn't familiar with, and I've had no flak yet for the Mr. Roboto thoughts
