In terms of a classic dress watch, well I had a PP 5074 in my (shaking) hands on Saturday and that was quite nice :shock:

Wow.. A Patek 5074!!!!! What was it like holding over $500k in your hand.

As I'm listening to the minute repeater there are three things going through my head:

1) Don't drop it
2) That sounds amazing
3) I can't believe it was in a plastic bag.

Very nice watch Altair, as you know I have been into 'different' watches for a while now and this definitely fits the bill. You need to add some Glashutte school watches to the collection as well.

Since we are talking about the subject, any one notice how Glashutte is to A Lange exactely as Jaeger are to Patek? Its uncanny!

As my collection has increased in size and diversity, I find that my tastes keep wandering off into the more extraordinary area of design. I now have the craving for a classical dress watch and for something a bit more "out there" I think I found what I am looking for, the Jaeger Reverso 986 has long been on my list, and just might hit the spot for a classical dress watch that is also interesting. But what has really got me excited is the discovery of the steel Panoinverse, I saw the white and yellow gold models, which where both unatractive to em and out of my price range. But the steel model is both affordable and visually stunning! I love how unique it is! http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t= ... 5433&rid=0 This is definately not a watch most people would buy, but more of an eccentric piece. As far as the workmanship and detail go, I think this has got to be the finest value in haute horlogerie. I have not seen another model offer so much watchmaking finesse and fo so relatively little (can be had for around the 8K mark) One of my favorite aspects of this watch is the extreme attention to detail displayed in the butterfly, or bridge, in the form of hand finishing and the little extra touches such as the curved indices and numeral which add depth and interest to the dial. http://blog.perpetuelle.com/index.php/b ... nverse-xl/ I think I will wait until after Baselworld and see whats what. but this is a strong contender for my 2011 purchase!

Nice watch man, what size is the dial, and is that an in-house movement with a Tourbillon? all for around 8k?

Size is just over 42mm, and the watch wear a bit bigger. All Glashutte watches are made in house, and thats the bridge, not a Tourbillion.

Very nice. Reminds me of the Lange 1, which I think may be the most beautiful watch on the planet right now.

Altair...it is crazy that you just wrote this post. I was emailing another member about this exact watch yesterday. I am very impressed with GO as a brand, and the attention to detail that they put into their watches. There is a great write up on TZ about a factory tour that the moderator of the GO forum took. As far as the Panioverse...I think it is an outstanding dress watch, and a huge bang for your buck!! If you do not already have a GO in your collection, then I would pick it over the JLC Reverso (even though JLC is my personal favorite brand). Your collection is too nice to not include something from GO in it.

I was just turned onto Glashuette by John, I saw a Panomatic Lunar XL for sale on another board last night and it was gorgeous....looks like an A Lange but a lot less expensive. I don't like the one that was posted above, the purple looking jewels on the face make it look kinda feminine in my opinion.

The store owner just pulled it out of the safe and cut the plastic vacuum sealed bag that it had been sent in like it was no big deal. And yes, I think it is about tiem for me to add something from the German side of watchmaking, and that Glashutte just might make for an excellent start! No sarcasm at all. Glashutte tend to have more contemporary designs, larger cases, and somewhat less exacting finishing standards than A Lange but at a far lower price point and in that seem to offer a better value and more attractive designs (at least initially). To me, Jaeger mirror that "relationship" with Patek as well.
