Post subject:  When To Service?

Thankfully all my watches are running well and looking like new but this got me thinking of a few years down the line when a service is due and as to when people call it time to send a watch in for a service. Like I said above my watches are looking like new so in general, assuming the watch has no falls or knocks ETC when is it time to send it for service? So lets your watch is cosmetically perfect, is it down to time keeping and is the time lost a long a drawn process or is it a case that the losing of time a rather fast affair?
So after what is your cut of point, time lost wise outside COSC specs, do you send for a service 15 seconds out a day, 30 or is it minutes out before you call "time" so to speak!!

If a watch is 5 - 7 years old and loses it's ability to keep accurate time then it needs a service - smae with if the power reserve drops. There's no point in not servicing it until it gets worse, that just increases the likelihood of more wear and tear on the movement. In a modern watch servicing intervals are driven by the oil breaking down and not being able to do its job anymore - that's not going to get any better by waiting until time keeping is x seconds out.

Was aware of oil break down from reading around here, thanks B.S., but was just wondering at what stage do people send them in.
Going by above, is it as soon as it can't keep COSC?

That (or a reduced power reserve) is your symptom that the oil has broken down. Delaying from that point is like ignoring the check engine light in your car.

I really like 5 years as a service interval. Also a good time to decide, do I really need this watch? If you decide no, it's great to sell at that point. Buyers will see you took care of it as well, similar to buying a used car.
