On my way back to Iraq I got to finally see the UN line in the metal in Dubai and try them on. I must say I was really impressed with the models that up until then I have only been able to ogle in magazine ads and online. In fact I think some of the magazine ads have got drool stains on them, but I couldn't help it. At any rate the AD in Dubai did not allow any discount and there was no way I was going to give them what they wanted for it there so I left without acquiring one.

:D As luck had it, today I was nosing around and came upon a pre-owned version at a price I couldn't resist. To make a long story short I called the guy up and struck an even better deal with him on the phone and now I'm the proud new expectant owner of a Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver. :santa: It's my Santa gift to myself since I won't be having an "Ol Lady" getting me anything this year....for some reason I just don't see myself on her Christmas list since we are getting divorced :guns: ..... :nana: hahahaha. Below are a few pictures I took from his ad, but I'll provide a few "Live" shots when it arrives over here in the Great Sand Box of the world. :cheer:

Nice pick-up, there's no way in hell that I'd wear that over here, but still nice. UN's are growing on my more and more.

Do you transit through Dubai Roman4405? If so have you had a chance to visit any of the AD's at City Mall or Emirates Mall? I've noticed being the richest city in the world, they don't have the motivation to discount anything at the AD's. It still makes a good place to go in order to see these things in the metal and try a lot on before deciding to pull the trigger on something. I hope we can hook up next month when I come through VBC on my way back to Dubai. I usually have to spend a night there in the process of trying to catch my commercial flight out of Baghdad. Our LSA is located on Camp Sather, just within about a 1/4 mile or so of the "Tunnel" which I'm sure you are familiar with. I wonder if there are more of us over here in Iraq.

I have to fly through Ali, in Kuwait, when I go home, so I've got no chance of hitting up Dubai AD's. I went to Dubai a couple of time when I was in the Navy, but for some reason we weren't allowed to leave the MWR center, but we were in Bahrain, made no sense to me and this was in '99 when there wasn't anything going on.

Oh man that sux dude...Ali is a pain in the arse...I hate going there and having to spend the night...have to bring your own bedding or buy some at the PX since Housing does not issue any. Fortunately we have a guy that works in Kuwait and he's got an apartment there in Kuwait City, so if I have to go there he will come and pick me up at Ali and get me off base.

I have to transfer through Bahrain on my way to and from Dubai most of the time as there are very few direct flights from Baghdad to Dubai via the commercial side. The upside is that there is a small Breitling AD there at the airport in Bahrain and the prices there seem to be better as they offer about a 20% discount. They also carry Omega, Rolex, and a lot of other top brands.

That's cool. I just know that the Kuwait airport sucks, the only nice watch that I saw there was Omega, and they had like 4 of them. Plus the airport just blows anyway, and I went through during Ramadan, so I sat there starving for about 9 hours.

Very nice addition. That's the exact other watch I was thinking of but decided to go with my Aqautimer instead.

Thanks Justin, but that Aquatimer you picked up is awesome too buddy and is something you won't find on every other wrist like a Rollie Sub. I guess that is one reason I haven't pursued acquiring a Rollie Sub as they are so common. Of course there is good and bad in that since there is more demand for a Rollie they are easier to flip if the need occurs, but I still like something that is a bit more unique personally.

Thank you Tim, I am anxiously awaiting it's arrival needless to say.

How long have your had yours dhalem? What are your thoughts on it so far?

I was very impressed with the fit and finish when I tried them on at the AD. I also like their strap which is enhanced with the Titanium link insert, although I would prefer they made it in SS, but it's not a show stopper and was very comfortable. The other features that initially attracted me were the easy to read date w/o a cyclops, power reserve indicator, and the large seconds sub-dial. The large hands are very easy to read at a glance and they compliment the hour indicators/ "golf ball" dial quite nicely. The unidirectional gray wave patterned bezel w/polished SS minute indicators & arabic font add to the classy look of this piece too. I found the bezel rotated smoothly and had a good audible click at each appropriate point without sounding tinny. Needless to say I'm really anxious for it to arrive .

Yours looks very stunning on the bracelet and really dresses it up, making it ideal for dressier occasions. Did you get the strap with it as well?

Woohoo!....well my UN is on it's way here to the Great Sandbox of the World here in Iraq and I can't tell ya'll how excited I am to get this rascal. Looking at my supplier's online store I also spied another piece that I've been wanting to add to my humble little collection. When I called him up and in the course of discussing the UN I asked him about the Rolex Explorer II he had. We soon came to an equitable price I was comfortable with and long story short, it will be arriving with my UN Maxi Marine Diver. I'm going to be waiting impatiently to say the least, no matter what it is receiving a package over here is a much anticipate event.....especially when it's one of your dream watches. Below are a few pics I borrowed from my supplier to tide me over until it gets here and I can get some of my own shots.
