Interesting article, but I'm pretty sure you could change "watch" to any number of things (cars, football, fishing, etc.) or even change "man" to "woman" and change the topic (to shopping, jewellery, handbags, etc.) and have the same sense of division with obsession on one side and bafflement on the other. Although there are typically "male pursuits" and "female pursuits", you will always find ladies who like male pursuits and men who like female pursuits.

The problem isn't really gender, it isn't really even obsession/addiction, it's having to be married to another unique individual who by definition will not share all the same interests as you. If one person's interest develops into something that takes up a lot of their time and the other party doesn't share it, they're obviously going to be slightly jealous of the time and attention it takes from them, the long-term partner.

(Incidentally, "Numbers" just came on and I had to pause writing this response and fumble for the remote because they had a bunch of watches up on screen and I thought I saw a Patek...)

some people are simply obsessed with the notion or concept of perfection; i do not share that obsession. i enjoy watches however i would much rather look at my wife.

this article excludes me as it references wealthy men and by no metric do i qualify :D

I enjoyed the article although it seems to me they were referencing the more extreme elements of watch obsession rather than those who treat it more as a hobby. Still I agreed with a lot of it and could see parts of it in me (although I'm no-where near as extreme  ).

Yeah I agree. Great article. But I think there is a difference between watch obsessions and watch enthusiasts or people who collect as a hobby. Interesting article and funny that many people on this sight will feel much more understood having read it.
