And I always have this thing against buying watches from fashion houses... but...

from a design standpoint, it's got its uniqueness... absolutely nuts over the red DB... running a ETA 2824 (don't know what grade though)... I like the asymmetrical finish and layout of the case and the crown guard design... it's also got a stainless steel base with rubber coating...

Mind you I'm only 31 and my fashion background does play a bit in this...and I'm sure it's not for everyone but more and more everyday I'm getting tempted...

I've been looking to add a bit of youth to my collection (all vintage so far) but sometimes I figure with similar coin dropped on this one, might as well pick up a SOH 46...

All opinions welcome...

I dont think its that bad, I am 31 aswell , and the names Gucci/Ferragamo/Dior all are in the same category with classy threads. The thing is if I am gonna spend the money I want a company who specializes in watches, Not a company who specializes in everything but watches. I would wear this watch in a heartbeat aswell as the Gucci Idigital. I can only imagine this Dior is 1500 or so, for that price you could get a NICE Mont Blanc, Oris Skeleton . Just my 2 cents, I do have a couple Gucci ties and Bally shoes and can attest to there quality .

That's the thing though... it's north of 2k... and I would assume a standard ETA 2824 but put it like this...

I would probably rock this than a TAG Heuer...

The trend would seem though these days the big fashion houses are all making an effort to put some quality and thought into their timepieces too... I totally feel what you're saying though Mac... the quality would be there... but.....

For north of 2k, I can probably think of some other pieces to drop my money on too... :? But like I said, I'm just contemplating on whether to add some "youth" to my collection...

WoW, That piece is 2k + , I had no clue that piece was that $$$ I definitely would not want that . There are so many nice pieces that can be had for less thank 2k its not even funny. I added youth my my collection by adding a colorful G shock. I bought a orange G SHOCK to hold me contempt until my DSSD comes in . The G Shock is a awesome watch.

I would rock a tag grand carrera in a heartbeat over that watch.

Sorry but I don't like that one, even if it didn't have the fashion house name on it.

And at over 2k???! Jeez I reckon you'd be paying 1.5K for the name!

:yeahthat

I'm not a watch snob, can't afford to be, and I wouldn't wear it, let alone buy it. Not to say that you shouldn't get it if you really like it, but there are much nicer watches out there for $2k IMHO. As someone said Oris comes to mind of you're looking for something sporty, plus it's a bit cheaper, and there's always the Steelfish or SuperOcean II plus a number of other watches in the same category made buy reputable watch companies, not people who make suits and ties. The way I see it is if I want clothes or shoes or a purse for my wife then I'll go with a fashion company, if I want a watch I'm going to go with a watch company.

I'm not a watch snob either but you can buy a simple quartz watch for £/$10 so I guess you could argue anything more than this snobbery!

Personally, I like the watches I wear irrespective if they cost £20 (a salmon Seiko automatic, styled like a Rolex Air King) or £1400 (a Breitling Aerospace LE). My money, my choice. If someone wants to pay $2000 for a watch they like, so be it.

I personally cannot appreciate the attraction of a diamond bezel but there are many on here who love them. Each to their own. If you like it, go for it!

Post subject:  Re: I'm a watch snob...

I'm understanding everyone's sentiment... Like I said, I also don't really believe in buying a timepiece from a company that has more of a rich sartorial history than being a maker of timepieces... sharkmouth makes a good point that usually us WIS have our preferences and when I said I'm a watch snob, I meant it in context where I would not normally buy a watch from a company whose main products are not timepieces... (if anyone wants to talk prices, I have a citizen in my collection too)

Having said that, I just stated that the watch I posted looks attractive in my opinion, and having mentioned some information about the internals, and putting into consideration that Dior is one of the premier fashion houses in the world. Aesthetics aside, I would assume they would put as much QC into their timepieces as into the rest of their products knowing they have a reputation to uphold.

I guess to play devil's advocate, if we were to comparing apples to oranges, some people can say a company like TAG Heuer makes only watches or I would rather wear a TAG than buy this piece, but a lot of their movements are ETA based... So is this one... so who's to say that a company like Dior couldn't also make a quality timepiece? (Dior is part of LVMH by the way, who in turn holds TAG, Zenith, and Hublot)

I'm not trying to :poke: anyone... all in the end anyone and anybody can tell me to buy it if I like it... and that would be the most logical answer... all I'm trying to do is fight this inner watch demon that's it... :D

Beyond the fact that I don't like this particular piece, I have freely admitted before to being a watch snob and I would never be able to see past the name, but if that doesn't bother you then go for it - it's a personal thing. My wife has an appreciation for watches, but based entirely on looks - the name and movement is irrelevant to her and in some ways I wish I was more like her in that regard.

Ah, but she has simply SUPERB taste, and I wouldn't say a Panerai is irrelevant either...
