Hey guys, so the other day I jumped into the hot tub with my girlfriend, when she said "Oh my god hun!" "What?" I exclaimed, thinking I did something wrong. "Your watch!! Its gonna get damaged!!" I then proceeded to explain how it was waterproof to 5000 feet, and I have worn it everyother time we were in the hot tub, and even when I shower. "Really?" She had always been to preoccupied to notice. (Busy sipping her cocktail and talking on her cell phone ![]() For me, it depends on the watch. Most of mine are dive watches so I keep them on without hesitation, but the few that arent and are on leather straps I always take off before hand. |

I would just mention here that while a watch maybe water resistant to great depths, the heat of a hot tub, or a sauna, or even a shower can have a degrading/hardening effect on the gaskets and seals so lessening their lifespan and effectiveness. Additionally, the soaps in the shower/bath (and chlorine that you find in healthclub hot tubs) will also have a degrading effect on the gaskets, so if you really MUST wear your watch in these circumstances then always wash your watch in clean water afterwards. Personally I always remove my watch when I jump in the shower/hot tub, or visit the sauna or steamroom to protect those rubber seals. |

I have to support Driver8 in that statement. I also take it off on occasions like that. BG Thomas |

Driver8 you make a good point. I know the rapid expansion and contraction of the metal resulting from getting out of a 104 degree (F) hot tub or shower to a temperature much lower can wreak havoc on the gaskets, which is why I usually have the watches I wear constantly underwater or in the shower serviced at more frequent intervals than the rest. I fall into the same catergory as Doc, usually 24/7 unless I am doing something that runs the risk of really scratching it, or shocking it. I also take it off when sleeping. |

I take my Navitimer off for washing the occassional dish! I think the only time I've ever took my Colt off was to adjust the time or for 'intimate moments' ![]() |

I've had my $270 diver style watch 24/7 for 16 years now. Hot tub, sauna, hammering and even "intimate moments" = no problems! I take it off for changing battery (every second year) or adjusting the bracelet when I'm gaining och loosing weight =). So ling-fans, should I stay with my $270 watch for another 16 years or should I go for the SA I'm longing for? Maybe It's possible to upgrade the breitling gaskets? ![]() Sorry, of course I understand why people wanna take good care of their watches... |

I own both a Breitling Airwolf and SuperOcean. And depending on what my activities are for the day, will decide on what LING tags along with me. Airwolf Activities: Dinner Events, A night at the Black Jack tables Any time I step into the cockpit for a flight Office work, meeting with clients, etc. SuperOcean Activities: Wakeboarding at the river Skeet Shooting Scuba Diving Fishing As you can see, the SuperOcean gets the chore of my more active activities, and it has yet to let me down! --Mark |
