Post subject:  Does the watch you wear match your outfit?

So this may be an odd question but it's one I have been struggling with when planning my first Breitling purchase. Ever since I was younger I have been raised to always match certain things like Black belt = black shoes = black wallet (if possible/convenient enough), Brown belt = brown shoes = brown wallet (if possible/convenient) which to me is perfectly normal and actually the preferred way to do things. For me this has carried over into Sunglasses and Watches as well. Currently I have a bunch of watches that I rotate through (no "Luxury" watches yet) with different colored faces for just this reason, a couple of Movados, a Bulova, and some "Fashion" watches like Kenneth Coles, Armani, etc. When looking at the different Chronomat B01 face options I really love the Carbon Black but am worried I wouldn't be able to wear it with the "Brown setup" or even a brown leather strap which is pushing me more towards a Sierra Silver or an Antarctica White face. In a perfect world I would just get one with a Carbon black face and the other with a Metallica Brown face  .

Is this something that you guys take into consideration when buying watches? Seems like you would, I just haven't seen it discussed before.

so.... discuss. lol!

I do usually consider this, but after a few months of wearing my black face/black calf Navi I realize that I would rather have my B on my wrist than anything else. I have brown watches that may go better in certain instances, but 9 out of 10 I pull out the Ling.

As far as a borwn strap on black dial, this has been done by every watch company around, and certainly is not ugly. I think it just gives a tougher more ruged look with the contrasting colors.

I am the same way and my Fiancee thinks I'm crazy! However, I have a black wallet that I could care less to match simply because you don't see it!

Look below at my pics, I have a black faced Chronomat Ev. That I have a black/brown and rubber diver II/deployment for and love ever option. It makes it like a whole new watch every time I put it on! :D

In a few months I will be making my next purchase and keep my Chronomat as my Monday through Friday watch and something like a Navi world or even a 6.75 as my fun/dinner watch.

I believe 2 or even 3 number of watches to own for any occasion! I will be there someday in the near future! :lingsrock:

But in the mean time switching straps is the next best alternative! :uplaugh:

I only own black watches , so I never have that problem. Black goes with everything :D I do always match my shirts with my shoes in sporty apparel , dress clothes go with brown or black. Black makes a chubby guy like me look thinner :cheer:

Not an odd question at all. I take into consideration what "gaps" I need to fill when I am looking to purchase a new watch. I always match the dial/strap option to coordinate with my belt or shoes. I usually purchase a bracelet, leather/croco, and rubber strap for each watch when I can so I have more options.

Mine does too! She's gotten somewhat used to it now but still chuckles when I run back into the house to get the right colored pair of sunglasses when I realize the wrong ones are in the car. LOL!

The variations in your sig all look nice, I have never tried the black face/brown strap combo but it doesn't look too bad. Still undecided on the face for mine......

That's what I have always done as well.

I dont really pay attention to that. A black or white/silver watch will go with just about anything, including just about any color strap.

Unfortunately i do try to match up a polo shirt or hat ( wear a hat most of the time) to a dial and if on leather will try to match shoes, shirt or hat to the strap! Weird, i know but its the way i roll!

I try to match stuff. That's why I put my Blackbird on a brown strap, I usually wear brown shoes and belt. If I wear black I can just put it on the bracelet. And a brown strap goes great with a black dial in my opinion.

I don't really know whats going on with my wardrobe half of the time anyways!
seriously though, If the watch fits under the cuff, its good.. If I'm wearing jeans, anything goes except for gold!

Haha, good topic btw!
I usually go gold watches with brown straps for brown suits and shirt/tie combos, silver or black watches for my grey/black suits etc...
I also match shoes, belts and socks (of course!!!). Casual, pretty much the same.

Damn..... I need to get a life!

trying too hard to match = tacky.

:yeahthat

Being too matchy is just as bad as not matching at all. The truth is that black and brown go with pretty much anything.

I'm more concerned with matching watches with the occasion. I hate to see a super-sporty looking watch with a suit or tux. You wouldn't wear sneakers with that suit, would you?! Then why are you wearing an orange PO on a rubber strap?
