If we are talking of wooden watches in another post, we surely have to go back to John Harrison who in the 1720's used different types of wood to construct frictionless parts for clocks to ensure they were accurate.

A friend of mine has seen the Brocklesby Park turret clock, an amazing accomplishment a clock that is still working just 12 years short of its 300th birthday.
