Post subject:  About Face

So one of my coworkers who has given me plenty of grief about my watches showed up today with his sleeves rolled up wearing him a shiny new......Tag Heuer.

He had not sized it yet, so I was dangling off his wrist, but you could tell he wanted me to ask about it. Anyhow, I held off on asking about it for the first couple of minutes of him talking with his arms wailing all over the place, and when I did finally ask he said it was an engagement gift. (he got engaged this past weekend, sucker  )

I wasn't that impressed, and honestly felt like my Hamilton was higher quality, but needless to say I looked it over for a minute and asked him if he was enjoying it.

I diplomatically welcomed him to the watch world, and pointed him in the direction of the AD who may be able to help him take a couple links out.

He must be on cloud 9. He's got the grail of non-WIS all over the world.

He has always been the...."If all it does is tell time, why not buy a timex" guy.

Lots of tag bashing today....while I'm not a big fan of the brand, they do have a few pieces that I really like. The Tag Link automatic, the Carrera Day Date, and the Grand Carrera is pretty hot. Aside from those models I'm not a big fan.

Which tag was it? I can say the only tag I like is the grand carrera:

Good story. Weird about not having it sized. He must have got it online.

Almost got my girlfriend a Link a while back.

Presumably he drives a moped or an Astro van.

Im not sure of the model, but It certainly was not the grande carrera. Which btw is a pretty sharp looking piece.

I dont hold his prior comments against him and really just assume he was telling his girl about my interest in nice watches and she happened to disagree with his "timex" assessment.

HA!!

I think it's pretty funny, but I can understand both side of the coin on this one. I used to be somewhat like that, but after owning a great timepiece I really do understand the appeal of owning one. I still think it doesn't make any sense to own a $20k watch, that I just don't get. Well I guess I get it but I could never bring myself to do it. I think $7-8k is about the most I could see myself spending on a watch and even then it would have to be a hell of a watch, like that Navi B01 or a 312 or a Rolex GMT.
