Anyone heard of this conference before? Its in switzerland somewhere. I just happened across it and looks really interesting. Is it open to the public? Anyone ever gone?

Yeah, its an annual show of watches and jewellery and is held in Basel Switzerland. I have never been to one but have seen videos and have read about them in watch magazines. Its open to everyone, they have tickets and passes for special events etc. I am sure it will be cool to go to one some day!

Yes, Basel is huge. I haven't been ther (yet), but what I've heard there's a big difference regarding how close to the watches you can be. As a regular spectator, I've heard it's viewing only. As a visiting AD, you're allowed to feel the pieces too. Thomas (Alien) should be able to confirm/shatter this. :)

The fair itself is open to the public. But inside, You will not be able to walk into the Breitling Boot without an apointment as an AD. Some smaller companies might show You their stuff, if they have a lousy day and nothing better to do. The overall impression on that fair is just overwhelming. The watch companies (including Breitling) usually show a large part of their new products, the jewelery companies usually show the last years collections in their windows, the actual stuff only inside. Entrance fees are not cheap, if You make it there in time, it is sure woth a visit.

Well I just meant in general. Is there any other watch conventions in other places around the globe? Such as Toronto :D

Sorry flyboy, I was just messing about and being facitious in my last post! :D

I don't know if there are any other watch conventions around the globe - but I'd be interested if there was.

Quiet afternoon at work and came across this thread.

I know that a few members on this forum have been to Baselworld and thought I'd share my experience.

I was there in 2004. I have worked in Basel 4 out of the last 5 yrs (missed 2006) and was lucky enough to turn up to start my job the day that it was finishing in 2004. Funnily enough that was the year I got my 1st Breitling (Aerospace) before I finished for the year and came home in September.

The place I always stay - Gundeli Appartments - had a couple of free passes and they gave them to me and a collegue. He is into Rolex & I was starting my affair with Breitling. It was, as has been reported, MASSIVE and we wandered round for a couple of hours before heading for the Rolex and Breitling stands. Quite funny really - my mate could afford any Rolex he wanted and they initially stopped us from going into the Rolex area (he was dressed very casually!). A quick word with security sorted that out! However he was so disgusted at the way he was treated he vowed never to buy one! Tee Hee.

Any way - I could go on for hours - I did get to drool (only briefly) over a few of my own choice but at least it kindled my passion.

If anyone is planning a visit let me know. You'll need to book very early as the accommodation gets booked up well in advance - you're probably too late for next year already!

Also I know Basel very well and can point any one interested in the right direction for eating and entertainment.

If anyone from the UK is planning a visit then I wouldn't mind going along too - happy days!
